What happened? This used to be one of my favourite go-to Japanese restaurant. Decided to take advantage of their 25% discount on the Kappo menu tonight and it seems that only 25% of the service was present.

    1. Waiter had to confirm our orders on 3 separate occasions.
    2. Someone else's order arrived at our table.
    3. No dipping sauce for the clam dish. We only realized this when our surrounding table received it.
    4. Did not offer soy sauce with our sashimi.
    5. Our side of potato wedges did not arrive until our mains were finished.

Avoid the assorted sashimi. It was poorly presented and it included mackerel sashimi, which left a horrible fishy aftertaste. We also ordered tempura mushroom, truffle crocquette, barramundi, and wagyu steak. The Waqyu wasn't of high quality (low marbling) for the price we paid. The rest were OK.

The table next to us had an issue raised to the manager. He didn't handle the situation really well, causing the couple to storm out of the room.

Overall, this was a really poor experience. I had to remove my glowing review from 2008 to make way for this one.

Some courses are better than others and in this seasons degustation menu the confit scallop and wagu were the standout dishes. The pumpkin soup was under seasoned and the dessert was not quite sweet enough (I like them slightly less sweet in the first place but this was almost a non-dessert). Overall it was a great experience with the highlight being the well chosen matching wines to each course, the presentation, and the service. I would like to see them lose the surcharge for ordering the wagu (just make it the price it needs to be) and charging for bread rolls. Additionally, they are BYO only on weekdays only. In the same spirit of charging $2.80 for a bread roll, they need to decide if they are fine dining or not and stick to it.

We booked a degustation dinner for 8:15pm and we were there til 10:30pm feasting on a sequence of food artwork with delicious Japanese flavours in the heart of crows nest. Beautiful flavours delicately presented on Japanese plates. The only thing missing were the chopsticks and Japanese style furniture. They've kept the place primarily modern with an emphasis on fine dining experience. We have been inspired to book a flight to Japan after this beautiful Japanese experience.

Good seasonal menu, great food with tasty flavours that highlight modern Japanese cuisine at it's best. Group dinners are better due to the open spaciousness of the restaurant layout. Otherwise it feels like there's a lack of intimacy for dinner dates due to the openess.

One of the bets dining experiences I have had! All six courses were beautiful both in flavour and presentation, the food was fresh and the flavours clean and well matched. Staff were polite, helpful and obviously proud of their establishment.
Some reviews have commented on the portion sizes but I felt that for a degustation they were decent sizes, enough to savour each course without becoming too filling. We really could not fault a thing, will be heading back for the next seasons menu the price for the six courses is very reasonable when you look at the quality coming to you, for a special night out I would happily recommend WAQU to anyone.

This was the best dining experience of my life and I have worked in hotels and cafes and my sister is a chef. I think many aussies expect to be popping at the seams after a meal and don't realise that smaller portion sizes are healthier. The work that goes into these meals makes them extremely cheap too.

Everything was spectacular! Every course a masterpiece of sight and taste and every matching wine further lifting the whole experience. The Sommelier was pure entertainment himself providing dramatic and informative descriptions of the divine liquors and wines provided. I was even surprised by a specially designed dessert to complete my meal as the waiter had "overheard" me talking about my birthday presents.

I cannot rate this restaurant and staff highly enough. Everyone should go!

Sensational food at a very reasonable price. It's not typical Japanese fare more of a modern Australia meets Japanese. Service was top notch as well, very attentive and meals were well explained.

    Fantastic dessert Lamb Entree Sashimi

Went here for an anniversary dinner. The 6 Course wasn't to badly priced.
The service is great, they explain every single course to you. Friendly staff and well paced in getting the food out. I enjoyed the experience food was great.

Servings slightly small for the price, I guess its more taste and experience then a hearty meal. I would go back when the seasonal menu changes.
