The restaurant environment was ok. The candles and nice table settings create a nicer ambiance but some of the meals and service is really disappointing.
Unfortunately the people waiting at the time could not understand what we were saying and we ended up waiting forty minutes for our food, even though we had said we were happy to start eating before out friend arrived who was 20 minutes late.
Even when our friend arrived we didn't get served another 20 minutes later. Some of the dishes were impressive and some really average. I would not recommend this restaurant.
Came to Thai Yindee on a voucher. They serve massive amount of food for the small amount paid. Nothing fancy, but big servings. All food came out at once, which wasn't very practical. But for such little price, can't really complain. Was a nightmare trying to book. Their voicemail system doesn't work and the online booking system doesn't work. Try calling in the evening to speak to someone to make a reservation.
Absolute nightmare with the Groupon voucher. When we went in with the voucher on my phone, the woman just kept saying, "no, you need voucher" whilst wafting a paper voucher in my face. Really poor service and blatantly rude. When we finally got a print out and had our meal, the food was really good and the portion was too much for 2 people. It was enough for 4 people really (not complaining!). The wine with the deal was nice enough and the dessert was good, too. Can't really fault the food. It's just a shame that who we believe was the store head, was very rude and the service completely let the place down. If blunt, no-nonsense service is your thing, this place will be great for you but it's not for us, so we won't be returning!
We purchased a spreets voucher $35 for two people 7 course meal, food was good and was filling for two, restaurant was small and busy which is good, service from waitressess was terrible, they were rude and were thowing the plates of food on the table and not just our table but every table. So won't be returning again.
Thai Yindee is a hidden gem on King Street. Our family went on a Groupon voucher. The crispy pork belly crackled in my mouth. Fantastic! We also went for the spicy version of jungle curry. It tasted so authentic we felt we were back in Bangkok instead of the watered down sugared curries found in many Thai restaurants. Highly recommended.
We dined here on a groupon and will not be back. The food and service left much to be desired and a tip for all you grouponers: Do not accept the rice. The first potential problem was actually getting a reservation. The groupon requires 48 hour advance booking for weekends, when actuality, they have somehow booked their weekends 6 weeks in advance. So we went during the week. No big deal. The value of the groupon was supposed to be $86, but the meals we were served were far lower quality than any $80+ thai meal we've had in Newtown.
I have never eaten at this restaurant before, so I can not comment on the quality of the food when not using a groupon, but I definitely would not have wanted to pay more than the cost of the groupon ($30) for the food we received. The most notable starter was the rubberized fish patty. The beef main I received was about 200g of beef (Which tasted ok), served with a couple leaves of iceberg lettuce, shaved carrot, a slice of tomato and a couple razor thin slices of cucumber. Basically extremely cheap garnish. The dipping sauces they served were much too salty.
The dessert was already predetermined although was a quite tasty sticky rice with coconut milk and custard of some sort.
The best part of dining here was the 5-10 minute dispute over the bill. On our way out, the manager informed us we owed $3.50. For what?!? Well apparently the rice served did not come with the main dish. The manager belligerently informed us that the waitress had made it very clear that the rice was not included with the meal and it was stated clearly in the groupon that it was not included. This was just not the case. The waitress had asked my boyfriend if he would like rice with his dish and he said yes. The only thing the groupon excluded in the fine print was the duck, barramuni and snapper.
You would expect that a bowl of rice would be included in a three course meal and if not, the waitress would clearly state the rice costs additional. We argued in circles as she pointed to a stack of groupons, all of them having fallen victim to the $3.50 rice. What is particularly idiotic about this situation is that we came 14$ below the maximum value of the groupon ($86), she argued with us over a bowl of rice in front of a half a dozen customers, we will never be back and I am compelled now to spread the word about our negative experience.
They will water your wine when you dine here with a voucher but the BBQ Pork is to die for because they marinate while you wait an hour and a half to be served after the entire restaurant even if you were the first to get there when it was empty. Don't bother asking for the Snapper because 'you're not allowed to have this' according to the passive aggressive waitor... Waiting for a coconut and some water still and barely 10 mins of parking to spare after a couple of mouthfuls I really should've shared. My mother, 7 year old daughter (who initially wasn't included in the voucher for two) and I decided we better order the dessert... two servings of sticky date pudding with agar-agar-ivated mother's alike!
Ate here for the first time. Service was awful! Waiter could not answer questions regarding menu and had made the manager talk to us, manager was very rude! If it was up to me I would have walked out straight away but didn't want my date to feel awkward. Only enjoyed the starter, mains were not very nice. Will never dine here again and will not recommend to anyone.
Only 1 visit so far and will go back. Great 1st impression, super friendly staff and chef, smiley and helpful. Very cheery place.
Papaya salad - fresh and good value compared to others for $12.
Tom Kha - fragrant and perfect for a cold night.
Alittle different and stylish compared to other thai places around, flowers on each table, softer colours rather than common dark wood interiors. Clean amenities and back area. Like how the Kitchen is on display in the front.
Will definitely pop in with friends to try more on the menu.
