We visited the northbridge hotel for the first time on a Saturday night recently after living in the area for 6 years. We found the place and the food -average. Prices are certainly higher than most other pubs or clubs in the area possibly due to the location and recent renovations.

We ordered a full slab of ribs and the Thai beef salad. Since it was a weekend, they had a kids eat free promotion which was good for a first trip here. The ribs were of average quality with the usual sweet BBQ sauce slathered on it. But being served on a bed of shoestring fries, it certainly lacked some vegetables.

A salad would have been good. Coleslaw perhaps for the $32 price tag? My Thai beef salad was very average and presentation was quite haphazard as the veges came heaped on a flat dish, nearly falling off the sides. Beef slices were served medium rare which was a plus point. Dressing was ok, if a bit on the salty side.

The kids had a free meal each which was the usual fish and chips and grilled chicken with chips. I know the kids meals were free ($12/per otherwise) but the quality folks, was very poor. The battered fish in the F&S was downright stinky. My son just couldn't eat it. Fresh fish when cooked right, will not have that kind of overpowering smell. Perhaps it was frozen fish they used to justify the free meal. Grilled chicken meal was as stated -a cut up piece of very thin chicken fillet with little or no seasoning.

Ambience wise, the indoor seating is very small and limited so go early if you want to sit inside. Otherwise, they have a beer garden outside with the standard TV screens showing sport. If sitting inside, be prepared that it gets pretty loud inside due to the small enclosed space. Service was good and prompt.

The owners have put real effort into this place and it is worth a visit. Great menu, often changing as the owner listens to locals and only hires 5 star chefs, not back packers or short order cooks. Catering for fine diners and local patrons. It's a good mix at a great price. Parking is an issue and limited but there is parking in the Northbridge Plaza with a 2 minute walk. Worth it.

I had dinner on Thursday, the staff are all good lookers and the service was exceptional, perfectly timed and very friendly. Inside and outside was packed on a cold night. The white anchovies is a must starter @ $6, I enjoyed the chicken and leek pie but it was a bit bland. I followed up with lunch, with my mates next day, again the same great service, white anchovies and the ultimate chicken parmigiana with mash/peas, it was a taste sensation and a very big helping! Highly recommended, I am told the desserts are very good too. I will be back.

Since this last review, the menu has changed and the prices are way up and no Chicken Parmigiana, they have lost the plot, I won't be back.

Good food and service in a pleasant relaxed "neighbourhood pub" style environment. The menu is interesting and quality consistent. Highly recommended.

Went on a Friday night and the staff were very friendly and easy on the eye. Great start. The restaurant area is surrounded on 2 sides by the outdoor area so wafts of cigarette smoke blow in when someone opens the doors.

The food was average to say the least. We asked for grilled fish instead of deep fried fish and they said ok only to have pan fried fish covered in an oily flour coating...

Friend had the spinach salad with a very very strange drizzling of red coloured dressing which looked like tomato sauce but without any flavour. And there wasn't much quantity to offset the lack of quality.

Overall an average meal helped only with great staff and service.

Great to see this local hotel getting its act together and realising that its real market is local families! Only annoying thing is now my kids won't come home for dinner! We need to keep an eye on developments because it seems to be improving all the time. Some themed nights for oldies would be good eg Election nights, Halloween, Melboune Cup Lunch etc.

Was pleasantly surprised at my experience of the Northbridge Hotel. I have been here a couple of times over the past few years but will be returning on a more regular basis. The food is reasonably priced and good quality. The drinks are cheap and the bar staff are friendly and provide great service. I love what they've done with the new restaurant out the back and will definitely be bringing my family back when the new menu starts in March!

The Northbridge Hotel (Northy B), is under a great new management since 2010, and is pushing to become the great local pub it needs to be. With nightly events, Monday: NPL poker, Tuesday: trivia, Wednesday: Wings - the establishment attracts a wide range of customers.

Drinks are well priced, the kitchen is excellent and delivers a magnificent chicken schnitzel, and the staff are friendly and sociable.

If you want a taste (literally) of this hotel in full swing, don't miss Wing Wednesdays on the first Wednesday of each month with the hot wing competition. The atmosphere and competition is second to none.

As a local I have watched this pub change again and again, but this time, they have it right. Come and see for yourself.

A classic example of how not to renovate a pub. Formerly a very popular spot when the big rugby games are on the telly, it as the Herald described "soulless" - literally, you'd be hard pressed to bump into a soul there. Many of the locals have moved to the Bridgeview in Willoughby, and the company that owns the hotel has gone into administration. The food though, from the non-council approved kitchen, is good and fairly priced.
