Overview of Harry's Cafe De Wheels

Harry's Cafe de Wheels is synonymous to savoury pies. It is actually regarded as Sydney's Best Pie for its flavour, filling, and consistency. It is a testament to Australia's history, being in existence for 75 years (and counting). The orange red facade of their caravan actually displays interesting mementos and photos taken over time since it first rolled the streets of Sydney in 1930. Besides serving as creative décor, these are also entertaining for patrons as they line up in ques for their orders.

Harry's Cafe de Wheels has become popular for their pie and peas. Their pies now come in seafood, curry, and veggie varieties. While their menu has expanded with rolls, hotdogs, and sweets. But like before, these are still cherised for dinner under the open sky or are brought home as takeaways.

An institution, with a new venue in Penrith!

Comfort food, late night, morning after. Pies consistently devour-at-will good. Chilli dog packs perfect punch and overflowing with extras. Classic pie with mushy peas, mashed potato and gravy a must, for locals and visitors.

Great prices, roadside stall. Penrith branch has seats complete with curious birds.

Ala Bourdain, "You’ve got to ask in any town, what do they do better here than anywhere else? I don’t know, meat pies are pretty f***ing good here."

I wish people would rate this place for what it is, a hotdog and pie stand!
At 4 am after a night out on the town, nothing goes down better than a chilli dog or hotdog de wheels. Have been coming here for over 12 years and it still charms.

My first time ever eating here. Amazing. It was pretty busy for a late Sunday night. I had a chilli dog which was fresh & very tasty. Yum. My partner had the pie with mash & peas. It looked quite fresh as well & the meat was beautiful. Will definitely be back.

I love the Hot Dog De Wheels and Tiger Pie. If you go here you gotta get one of these as they are what Harry's is known for. They are delicious and the pies are made of quality meat rather than the rubbish you will find in the supermarket freezer. Great place to go for a quick bite to eat and its not too expensive either for the size of the servings.

A great place for a quick snack! The Veggie pie and also the Beef and Veg pastie are a must! The veg is always really fresh and chunky and the beef here is good quality, not like you get in other pies. Great price too, a must for visitors to Sydney!

Walked here for lunch last Saturday, for the 1st time. The surrounding water, wharfs, view is a great location. It's very relaxing, clean air and not crowded. The service was surprisingly good, the staff were friendly and polite. When we asked how hot the chilli con carne was, they gave us a plate with a sample!

Pies are cheap for what you get! I got the Tiger pie, which is pie with this mountain of mashed peas/potato with gravy on top. Only $5 something. All the pies are around $4-6. The food is hot and yum!

I've eaten here quite a few times, always late at night which I think is the only way to go. Not only do I love driving all the way to the city for the food (which is decent), I love watching all the other customers who are present, from bikers, to mobsters and thugs, from Japanese tourists to lovers, from cabbies to navy officers. Its absolutely fantastic having such a mix of people huddled around the van/shack eating and hanging out. Especially in winter.

I've tried better pies elsewhere (best place is Nyngan in outback NSW), but the Tiger curry pie or hot dogs are fantastic after a long day (I especially love the mash and gravy!), I don't drink, so I have had all my faculties when eating here, and the food really isn't that bad, sometimes quite dry, but great nevertheless.

I've left Sydney for a while for work, and now that I'm pregnant, all I crave are pie's from Harry's!

Awesome for a random night out especially when you are starving at 1 am, cheap eat meat-pies but the quality is great. The original tiger pie served with mash, mashed peas and gravy always hits the spot and at $5.80 which is more than you'd pay for a standard pie, it always hits the spot. Theres a reason why even at 1 am its packed with hungry people.

Hey if you are coming here for a gourmet experience you’re kidding yourself its pies and hotdogs! We came down to Sydney for the Australia day long weekend and hadn’t done Harry’s before so we got a train to Kings Cross walk through the cross following a Sydney walking guide. We had to hit Sydney on a 38 degree day so as you could imagine not a great day for hot dogs and pie sales, the lad who served us did mention we looked like being his lunch time rush for the day.

Well Harry’s is all about location, history and of course pie’s with mash spuds, mashed peas and gravy its bucket list experience for Australian’s and it is a great location for a quirky little pie van, I only wish I could have fitted in a hot dog de wheels as well.
