A group of 20 of us booked a $35, three course set dinner, on Saturday night. Unfortunately, only 13 people ended up coming. After chatting to the senior staff he said we still had to pay for the booked number of 20. Fair enough, overheads, staff etc. However, we requested that the extra meals be still brought out, since we were still paying for them.
Entree was okay. You can’t really go too wrong with a few big plates of Caesar salad and garlic/herb pizza bread. However, we were told that they did not have salad servers or tongs so we had to use our own forks to try and pour/scoop the salad off the large trays. No tongs or salad servers?
For mains: The steak was very well (over) done, dry and tough, even though they were all supposed to be medium. The alternate was prawn pasta. The prawns were small and tasted like they had just been thawed out in the microwave. Obviously they were both pre-cooked, reheated meals. We noted that only 15 meals came out (2 spare) so we concluded that the senior staff had taken pity on us.
Dessert was pretty good. Large serving sizes and very tasty. No complaints. Again only 15 came out.
When we came to pay the bill they tried to charge us for 20 meals. We explained that only 15 came out but the senior staff disagreed and said all 20 came out. Even though we pointed out that we only had one main in a take away container (one person ate 2 meals), and one of the waiters agreed that there were only 2 spare meals, the senior staff still insisted on charging us for 20.
After an hour of heated arguments in the presence of the bouncer, we finally agreed on a paying for 17 meals. 2 meals more that we received and 4 meals more than we required. Birthday night spoilt, and all in all an average dinner. Our conclusion, don’t get a set menu and don’t eat at Oscars.
Update: after an official complaint to the manager, we were told that they reviewed the cameras and agreed that only 15 meals came out. We got an apology however we are still waiting on a refund/compensation (2 weeks later).
