After making a booking a few days prior the 2 of us arrived @ 7pm on tuesday night, restuarant was quite empty at this point but we were seated in a tight corner on the outside part next to a family with a small child. This was bad planning on the waiters part.
Apart from this the service was very good for us, although after the family left next to us the table was not cleared of dirty dishes for about half an hour which did not add to the ambience of a pleasant dining experience. In a cafe ok - but not a dinner restaurant.
The food was excellent and came just at the pace. The waiters were knowledgeable and polite, we both did feel the ambience lacked that of a bistro. perhaps some music or we may have felt different if we were seated inside the restaurant. We will definitely return based on the food and service.

We live in the area & have been going here for 13yrs, I have put up with the rude uninterested staff, who make you feel like you are intruding on the day by coming into the shop! Because of the great coffee, truly delicious pastries and cakes.
I have had catering & so many birthday cakes etc made by them but no more! Last Wednesday was the Limit - the Manager that is on determines the staffs behaviour for the day. And this Manager had no idea! We queued to order as only 1 person serving with a shop full 7am.
Our croissants were virtually thrown on the table by the staff member - mine had the computer docket sitting on top of it, which I am sure is a health issue! my husbands coffee arrived and he drank it 5minutes later mine arrived. The table next to us he had his coffee but his muffin had never turned up!
I wanted to buy something on the way out still only one person serving - had to queue up again, now the queue was out the door-plus at least 10 people waiting for t/a coffee. the manager for the day was talking to the barista in full view of all of this, I spoke to her and she made no attempt to apologise or get some more staff to serve or even maybe do it herself? As any good manager would!
WE have put up with the bad service for the sake of the coffee and supporting local business but no more - We will never set foot in any Pattison Cafe again.

This was our first visit to Universal and we will certainly be going back. The food was magic, the flavour sensations blended together beautifully. The service from all the staff was perfect from the greeting, through our dinner explaining the menu & wines to then asking us if we would like a taxi when we left, then advising us when it had arrived and holding the door for us. We have been told at other "hatted" restaurants in Sydney recently when requested if they could call us a taxi - it was not possible! Here we did not even ask, it was all part of the service provided. It was my husbands birthday and his dessert came out with a candle which again showed great customer service. We would like to compliment Christine Manfield and her staff on a fantastic restaurant.

This restaurant has such potential, the food is fantastic, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable but it the service is slow.
The atmosphere/decor and vibe is just great, we are sydney siders taken there by our son. My ravioli was melt in the mouth, al dente and the butter and sage sauce perfect. The deep fried italian custard is the most amazing dessert, as it is served with this crisp light honey crust, magnificent. All in all a great night, just need to pick up the service level.

We went for our anniversay 8/5, had been wanting to go for a longtime and both avid fans of Matt Moran and his approach to using fresh ingredients. We were not disappointed at all, from the time we stepped in the door we felt like we were the only diners in the restaurant, the service was impeccable.
Particularly the Wine server who assisted us with a choice which I might add was not on the wine list but she knew there was some in the cellar! She was aware what sort of price range we looked at and did not try to push us onto some ridiculous price bottle which we found to be very professional and the bottle we had was fabulous wine.
The Pork Belly was amazing, my husband had sea urchins which had been flown in from Sth Aust what an experience, this is what you are paying for, a dining experience! His beef was perfectly cooked and my duck was cooked as the kitchen suggested "pink" and the flavours were great.
The Pastry chef Andrew Honeysett is to be complimented for his desserts. We found it to be a wonderful dining experience, the course sizes were ample and the prices, well you want the best cuisine and service then you have to pay for it! These days with internet we all know roughly what we will be paying at a restaurant before we make the booking! Thank you to all @ Aria.

Best coffee ever! Down from Sydney my son took me to Seven Seeds saying I was going to have the best coffee I had ever had, he was right! The brunch was delicious too, french toast with apricots, mascarpone and hazelnuts. Fabulous space and staff. Well done.

We have just had what we would call the worst breaksfast in Sydney ever! The setting and restaurant is just perfect but the food is just terrible. My husband had the worst pancakes he said that he had ever eaten! They were over cooked, which we thought was very difficult to do, dried out. 2 of us had roasted tomatoes and mushrooms, which looked like that had been cooked about 2 hours earlier and left sitting in a bain marie, the sour dough toast was cold and hard, it was impossible to cut it with a knife!
Even after putting the tomatoes on the toast I could still not soften it enough to eat it. The 4 person had scramled eggs which he said were just ok, it was like all the food had been pre-cooked and kept warm. Nothing tasted fresh at all. Our coffees were ok. The service was mediocre, I had to call a waiter to order coffees, I was bang into the back of my chair by a waiter, there was no excuse me! The place has a lot of potential but the food was just awful.
There are so many good places, I would rather spend my money somewhere else in the area than there.

Enjoyed our meal, service could have been better. I felt arriving at the restaurant for dinner, being pointed to our table and handed the menus to take with me to the table was not good service! Considering I already had a bottle of wine, handbag and umbrella to take to the table! The food was good and staff very friendly, the food came out too fast not much time to digest between courses. At the end of meal we complimented our waiter but I commented to him that my water glass(which I had not used) had a huge crack in the lip.
He informed that I should have told them, if they want to be a good restaurant it should not have been on the table in the first place! I wouldn't dine there again as there are places with better service and food just as good or better for the same price.
