I loved the ayam bakar (grilled chicken) on my first visit and was immediately impressed by the flavor and the tenderness of the chicken. The chili on the side made it very difficult to not love it. I had this with nasi uduk (coconut rice) and stir fried kangkung (vegetable). While the kangkung was mediocre, it is a gross injustice on my part to describe the nasi uduk as simply coconut rice.

There was something else, some herb or spice, apart from coconut cream/milk used to impart a beautiful and soft scent to the rice. In my first visit too, I tried empek-empek and I was immediately impressed although it was the first time in my personal experience to have empek-empek served with noodles.

I did a take away a few days afterwards and had the "nasi complit". I'm not sure what they did with the tofu that came in the dish but it was superb. The tempe was oily; I could do without it. A lady who was waiting for her take out told me to try the yellow rice and I will on my next visit.

Awesome wholesome unpretentious food. If ambiance is a problem for you, a simple take away will solve it. I've been there for the rendang; I've been there for the fish; I've been there for the chicken; I've also recently been there just for the chilli. Yes, it's not on the menu but they'd give it to you in little round tubs for $3.50. I was told that you could just help yourselves to it eating in. This place truly rocks my world.

We came on a Saturday night with a prior booking and was shown promptly to our table. The ambience is welcoming, intimate with soft warm lighting. The service was friendly, food was promptly served and, to put simply, extraordinaire. Leave that bottle of soy sauce, you won't need it. Everything from the sashimi up to the last main is superbly seasoned. This has to be the best secret dining experience in town.

Of all the dishes we had, the kingfish sashimi which came with a delicious umeboshi dressing was exceptionally delicious while the fish and prawn balls with green tea salt were an original hit. The food is reasonably priced and for that quality of food, service and experience I will be back again and again for more!

The Den is a regular lunch room for many locals thanks to their well-priced lunch menus that includes meals from tomato fried rice with crispy chicken to stirfried noodles and of course pho. They do wonderful noodle soup. I absolutely love the delicious broth and staff is always very accommodating to special requests. Go early before it gets packed because sometimes it takes a while for the food to be served when the kitchen is busy.

On this particular Friday evening, my friend and I ventured into Mad pizza for drinks and a bite. We ordered an Amalfi pizza (sweet tiger prawns, ricotta, garlic, chilli flakes and cherry tomatoes w/fresh mint leaves) and Tagliatelle E Pomodoro (tagliatelle pasta with tomato, garlic, basil and parmesan) priced around $19.50 each. The pizza crust was thin and crisp, the way I liked it. Sadly though, it was topped with a stingy heap of prawns and ricotta. The tagliatelle was dressed in a well-balance tomato sauce.

Overall the food was good, but not great. I feel a marriage between the food and the warm welcoming decor justifies the price, but certainly not the staff. Almost on a par with the pizza crust is the crispy service of one particular waitress who seems to be in a bad mood. That tops our dining in experience from this well-loved pizzeria. Next time I'll just pop to somewhere else down the road, the pizza is just as good if not better and they smile.

We came to Bills for a birthday lunch on a beautiful sunny Friday and found ourselves situated inside a pleasantly decorated restaurant that is both modern and in the same time cosy. A large wooden table occupies the centre of one room where single diners seat themselves pretty with their magazines, newspapers and books. We were lead to a table for 10.

The food took a while to be served. One colleague sung praises about the ricotta hotcakes; another mentioned that their chicken sandwich was okay; my haloumi tartine was ordinarily good; and the other 7 diners had no special comment about their food. Following this experience, we seek our post-meal coffee elsewhere.

Overall, it was a welcoming atmosphere, which was sadly contaminated by cold service and snobby-bordering-rude waitresses. On offer were standard café fares that were described down to the herbs with average price tags for the area.
