Exceeded our expectations! We had a Spreets voucher that was about to expire and booked the last minute, the staff were very accommodating and attentive.
I have never been a fan of Indian cuisine, after reading rave reviews of this place I had to go!

The food was fresh and cooked with the utmost care, everything was explained to us as it came out. My absolute favorite would have to be the potato corn patties, they simply melted in your mouth.

The place was dimly lit and very much seemed like a place you would go for a romantic dinner, the wine was poured for us (other places leave this tedious task to ourselves).

Staff were friendly and as I mentioned very attentive, they made sure we were well looked after. Definitely value for money with our vouchers, however, I would truly consider coming here again and recommending it to others.

Finally a place I can go for BBQ meat without having to travel towards the City, set in Canley Vale amongst the new strip of restaurants you can't expect too much as it is in the West. This place, however, has been quite a good place to wine and dine with friends on any given night, service is attentive, friendly and offer their advice, which is good for first timers.

The meat is marinated well, not great, but good enough depending on how you cook it! My favourites are the marinated ribs and the pork belly, leave yourself some room for dessert as it's all you can eat, the pannacotta and chocolate mousse are a must!

When I found out this place had macarons, I bothered my boyfriend to take me one evening after dinner, being a lover of desserts and especially macarons I was very disappointed in what they had to offer. Very basic flavoured macarons and at ridiculous prices, they expect to charge more than lindt's delices when the quality of the macarons itself were simply appalling. The blueberry one, was just blue and stained my teeth, obviously they think that blueberry just meant it was meant to be blue and not taste like it! All the other flavours were just the same, coloured to perfection and tasted all very much the same. Very disappointing. On the upside, they do stock Ben & Jerry's ice cream so I don't have to trek far for these babies.

A friend of mine finds this place the best sushi she's ever had, but to be frank, maybe it's just that she can't be bothered to venture out of the local area to try other places. I have been a handful of times in hopes that I will have the same reaction as my friend towards this place but every single time I've been there has always been something that puts it down, from the service to the food itself, there has always been a flaw.

The food itself is freshly prepared, although there is a sushi train, the plates on it look like they had been rotating around for a while as they hardly ever look fresh or welcoming. The safe bet is to order straight from the menu, the couple of times I've had udon here were shocking, the soup always has a weird flavour to it, either there's too much sides or not enough, never something in between. The sushi (when ordered) comes out fresh and much attention on presentation rather than the food itself, which is rather average.

Service is good but they could be more helpful and friendly, when we asked whether they take cards they looked simply appalled and gave us a blunt "no", which meant we had to walk across the street in the blistering cold to withdraw cash. This place certainly charges the same amount as the city ones but I rather travel the extra 45 minutes for quality service and even better food.

This place is by far provides the best ambience for hight tea, dimly lit, nice comfy couches and chairs, it is every bit feminine and romantic. Upon arrival we were greeted in a warm friendly manner and shown to our table by a equally friendly staff member, after being shown the cakes and tea menu we were left to peruse on which package we wanted.

Then we waited... To be fair there were 3 package options and all that differed was the drinks so taking as long as they did to come back to us was ridiculous, adding to insult it took just as long to get out tier of cakes (another table that came later then us got theirs a while before we did).

Everything looked and was delectable, with the exceptions of the scones which were as hard as rocks. The tea was bland and we weren't offered a top up until 1 hour later, by then we were already full of water!

All in all, the place was very busy and maybe they had a lot going on, even so, they really do need a couple of extra staff to make things run more smoothly. I would consider coming here again as the cakes were delicious and ambience was wonderful, hopefully service will be better.

On first impressions of this place, it was very modern and the people were very nice and friendly. A friend was celebrating her birthday and had booked a table which was upstairs, they told us to go there without even knowing where the way to upstairs was! Finally after looking around and climbing up a narrow set of stairs we were seated with the rest of the party, we ordered drinks and settled on the banquet menu which sounded good as we got to have a little bit of everything. Looking around the restaurant and at the decor gave a very cosy traditional feel.

Then it got bad. The drinks we ordered had to be asked for twice, the food didn't come out until 40 minutes later and everything else after that was still late and inadequate timing. The food was great, but having to continuously ask for our food and drinks and being told that "it'll be out soon" was no help whatsoever. Appalling and disappointing service for good food brings the rating of this restaurant down for me.

Response from Management:
Hi,

The night you had is not what we expect from our team at Newtown.
We have looked into the situation and adjusted some of our procedures to hopefully avoid similar situation.
I would like to discuss your situation with you personally please email me manager@thairifficnewtown.com.au

Thanks.

I've heard numerous good reviews of Kazbah in Balmain and was excited to finally try their food but I was surely disappointed. We were left standing to wait for a while, yes, they did see us and they took their time to actually seat us, which was very frustrating. We shared bread/dips and a mezze platter to share between the two of us and were told there was going to be a lot of food, but we were left feeling hungry and disappointed.

Finally a place that doesn't want me to venture to Bankstown for Pho! This place is quite the gem, the pho is very homemade and tastes great, they give plenty of meat and bean sprouts to accompany the soup. Besides the great pho, the ambience sure does drag the place down, it is desperately in need of a makeover to compliment its great food.

I was taken here the other day for an anniversary dinner and since it used to have a chef's hat I was excited to see what they offered. Upon arrival we were greeted with a lot of enthusiasm and were seated promptly at our table, we decided to give the degustation menu a miss and chose our own dishes for the night. We had: a seaweed salad, miso soup, sashimi, sushi, their famous flounder, wagyu in garlic soy, chicken balls (menu special), and their assorted desserts.

Everything was good, with a few exceptions: the sashimi seemed to be roughly cut and rather thick, the flounder was flavourless and the "famous" tag had me questioning what it was famous for, the chicken balls came out very late and besides 2 balls of chicken the rest of the plate was just simply pieces of chicken.

Ambience, well the place looked very dull in comparison to the photos they have on their website (probably enhanced?), the staff ept hovering around our table and it made us feel rushed and like we were being watched by hawks, very off-putting. It's hard to imagine that this place used to have One Chef's Hat, but maybe it was better before than it is now.

Such great reviews but, unfortunately, when we arrived here on a quiet Tuesday we were greeted very unenthusiastically. The staffer asked us if we had reservations and seem flustered that we didn't and mind you this was at 5.30 pm and we were the first people to arrive so the place was completely empty until 6.30 pm!

We are both non-drinkers and were just getting over being sick so stayed away from alcoholic beverages, the staff taking our order looked even more annoyed and bewildered at the thought we were just there for the food, at this point it was really getting on my nerves at how rude and off-putting he was to us.

To sum it up, the food was great, ambience would have been better later on in the night when there were more people, the service we had that night was terrible!
