If you're looking for a traditional country pub environment in the CBD area then the North Fitzroy Arms Hotel is the place to visit.

Tucked away in the back streets between Brunswick and Nicolson Streets this quaint little pub has a really good vibe about it. I have been here a few times, however, I believe since about May this year some new owners have taken over and there is a much better vibe about the place and it seems to be a lot busier. You feel very welcomed by all the staff with the service being quite efficient.

The few times I have been to this pub with family and friends I have tried anything from the tapas calamari, warm Turkish bread with dips, to items off the bar menu including rissoles with mash, steak sandwich and the chicken parma and sitting in the dining room where I have had the amazing lamb shanks and pork belly, oh and you have to try the sticky date pudding or chocolate fondant.

The food and serving sizes are fantastic and there is such a variety, in fact probably too much to choose from. There is also the specials board that has some great items also. The other good thing I like about this pub is that you can be sitting in the dining room which is a little more formal and able to order of the bar menu and vise versa if you are sitting in the bar as you want it more casual and want something off the dining room menu.

Service in the pub has definitely picked up, however, as this place tends to get busy on the weekends expect a little bit of a wait for your food as assume the kitchen gets slammed trying to keep up with the orders, however, worth the wait.

I have taken a group and used the private dining room which is located just off the main dining room, so although private you still feel part of the pub and the environment. A beautiful rustic wooden table that holds 16 people. Had my mum’s birthday there with family and kids and the room worked really well.

I love the options when at this pub as you can sit in the front bar around all the football memorabilia and open fire places, head the back room where it’s more like a bistro with 4-5 tables that opens to a small courtyard with outdoor heaters and a plasma screen or you can head to the dining room area if you are looking for something more formal.

All in all if you are looking for a nice little pub I would recommend this place.
