A review by "melrich" further down is a mirror copy of my experience at this restaurant. The service is the best I have ever had, other waiting staff should be taken there to observe how it can be done properly. The wine list is a sight to behold, but so is the price tags, $19 for a glass of nebbiano!
The excellent bread and water keep coming, and the side dishes we ordered with our steaks were incredible. A crispy asian salad to die for, and perfectly cooked vegetables. But, to be honest, our steaks were awful, had much better in many local pubs. Dry and tasteless, both of them. I did observe a young kitchen staff reheating steaks back onto the grill from the resting platter?, this seemed to go against mr perry's cooking tips on his tv shows.
I will go back, too many good reviews to make me think they overcook every steak. Just wish it was not mine!

My wife and I dine here every Melbourne visit, the latin trio playing in the lane add to the nice atmosphere. Always an interesting menu, last time we had home made dips with crunchy turkish bread, lovely pumpkin risotto, and a tasty lamb salad.
Great wine choices and service also. Great place.

As a local for 30 years, I have eaten here often, including birthdays and anniversaries. The banquets are the only way to go, you can never finish them. You certainly get a vast array of everything they make, sometimes the lamb is great, other times it might be the calamari. There is an underground wine cellar with some real treasures to be found. Sure the place is noisy, but how else would you want your greek taverna. Service always excellent, the staff rarely change and know their stuff. Love the place.

I had no complaints about my Garfish experience. Extensive menu with nice non seafood alternatives, and some nice wines by the glass. The service I received was most attentive. For dinner I had a whole barramundi in a chilli jam sauce.
It was delicious, and the sauce did not overpower the fish, which was crispy skinned as described. Would go back!

Also went here slightly defensive after reading mixed reviews, but my wife wanted french food, so in we went. The menu was a safe mix of what you would expect from a french diner, but even with the $50 for 3 courses, I expect better food for my money. It really was not much better than you would expect from a half decent dinner party host.
My seafood soup was indeed filled with a nice mix of fresh seafood, but a small serving, and the tomato base tasted like heinz. The lamb rack was cooked ok, bit like mums sunday roast. The desserts all looked commercially made. My first 3 picks from the wine list were unavailable!
But, there must have been 200 people packed in there, people were being turned away, so something must be going for the place?

You sneeky Sydney people have kept this place a well kept secret. 10 months I have walked Sydneys streets eating reasonable asian food at $16 to $45 a plate.
What a find! The menu is endless, the servings huge, service faultless, prompt food delivery, nice decor, fresh ingredients. Then you get the bill, 3 courses, rice, and beverages $32! Must be the best food in Australia for this price let alone Sydney. I went 2 days later just to make sure I was not dreaming.

Definitely prefer daytime for eating at this restaurant, the view at night was not very well lit, and could not compare to the day. Not realising there had been an ownership change, my wife and I were only looking for a budget friday night meal, and we were happy to see some low priced specials on the menu.
I had a veal and fig salad that was very good indeed, my wife also enjoyed her chicken caeser. We also shared an ample and tasty antipasto platter. There were some nice wine choices on the wine list that also did not hurt the budget. Would definitely go again, for lunch!

Really loved this restaurant, well spaced tables, great menu, interesting wine list. The service was friendly and attentive. Food came out promptly. The home made pasta dishes were delicious, my wife said her steak was perfect, and my suckling pig had 3 generous sized pieces that were all tender. The eatability special offer of 3 courses for $49 made this meal a bargain for this quality of restaurant. Well done.

Being a long time fan of the Sydney Longrain, I was so happy to find the same quality here. Loved the building, the cocktail area, the d.j.. food fantastic, wine list great. I always find the communal tables so wide you cannot hear the people opposite, but the only negative comments you read here about both Longrains are on the communal thing, so, perhaps, they should try a 50/50 seating. Still, you always have to wait for a table, so the majority must like it.

Only ever had lunch here on 4 occasions, always full dining area, very generous specials, a lot of the seafood seems to come out of frozen packets. The steaks are always excellent. They tend to leave you waiting, and rarely clean your dirty plates, but usually understaffed and busy places are like this. Overall quite good for a pub counter meal.
