We've been here twice and ordered the exact same thing, mushroom sauté and bacon and egg burger, with the exception of our drinks, first time fresh juice, second coffee and chai.
The mushroom sauté was the reason I came back the very next day, and my partner could not stop craving the burger. The service was warm and friendly and although the place was very busy they offered us a bench seat next to the kitchen whilst we waiting for a table.
Since the sautéed mushroom dish was so good, I thought I'd order a salad half/half that I could takeaway for a later lunch, the beetroot salad was delicious whereas the protein salad was hard to finish.
Our second visit (a Sunday) felt a little more rushed. Staff seemed to be stressed and didn't smile as much but we were pleased to see that the dishes didn't change it taste. My chai was nice, but nothing to write home about, def preferred the fresh juice. Value was fantastic for organic food. Overall, definitely worth a visit. I'll be back!

Food was fantastic. Traditional Japanese flavours with Western favourites - Salad, fish, etc. Each dish (Spinach- Appetiser, Carrot-Appetiser; spicy tuna hand roll, Tooth fish, tofu salad) was tasty and satisfying, however, they are very expensive for what they are. Specifically, you could get the same elsewhere and pay less, and I have. The decor needs an update. Its looking worn and tired and could use some new stuff.
The service was quite good. Meals were brought fast although the service lacked warmth. Would have been nice to feel more welcome. Value, as noted before, is not good. However, the food taste is unfaltering, so you pay for it.
Overall, a nice place to eat a few times but will not be in my list of regulars due to price, lack of warmth in service, and tired decor, simply does not feel like good value for money, thus a tainted-feeling experience results. Worth trying at least once if you are a Japanese fan, you may have a better overall exerience than I did. Hope that helps.

Ordered a rocket, parmesan and prosciutto pizza from here for the first time since we have lived in Pyrmont (7 years) and was pleasantly surprised. The small size is very small though and still cost $13 but was still quite delicious. The crust could have been a little crispier but all in all was a tasty pizza. Recommended!

This place is a hidden gem! I finally came for the first time tonight. Its a very cool set-up, you feel like you are in your own little world in one of the booths. Its a lot of fun to be able to order your food from the touch screens, and great that you can keep track of your bill and see where your food is up to (icons for cooking/served etc).
Its a medium-high priced considering the size of the servings but I definitely recommend this place for the sheer novelty and will be back. Get in early though (before 7, or after 8) to get a table, as this place is very popular and busy, even on a Monday.

22 January 2008: My boyfriend and I ate here this evening as we were originally going to try Yoshinoya but were disappointed with their menu (just like other reviewers on here say). On our way to Wagama's instead, we came across this Sushi train and thought that we would try it out. The staff said hello to us and the man seemed quite friendly and welcomed us in.
After receiving a positive response to the question "Two?" the waitress showed us to a small bench facing the wall next to the kitchen. I asked if we could sit at the next table which seemed to have more room, but she shook her head and beckoned us to the small table. Not wanting to cause a fuss we sat down at the small uncomfortable table, only to watch another couple ask, and sit at the table we requested almost immediately.
Annoyed, we moved to the other side of the Sushi train so we could eat more comfortably. It was '$2.50 Sushi Tuesday' so the value was excellent, and the variety was pretty good also. They did supply free wasabi mayonnaise, free ginger, and yummy desserts for only $3.50. My only other complaints would be the lack of napkin, freshness and 'real' wasabi but a great place for what you pay for.
21 April 2009: Ok, I've since been back here, many times over the last year and it seems as though they have been reading this site because they now provide napkins - although they are some kind of plasticy material not suitable for wiping up anything but will provide a normal one if requested. They also will give you 'real' wasabi if requested.
And the freshness of tuna/salmon etc has definitely picked up. Hot food does sit on the train, but you can request it 'hot/fresh' and they will get it to you as soon as possible. Unfortunately, they have stopped their $2.50 Tuesdays :(This is very sad because we raved about this to all of our friends who also became regulars, then they stopped (a long while ago now) and so my friends don't come any more. They should really consider bringing that back.
An earlier post said that they made them pay before using the toilet. Every time I have asked, even before sitting down, they have never asked me for payment first. Last week we were surprised to find it closed. It looked like they were renovating, though there were no signs on the doors. A friend of mine said they had reopened again.

This place has slipped. Not sure who is running it now. 2 years ago the food was amazing, the service perfect and the value, well, you got what you paid for. Now, the staff a snooty, the food is 'eh', and the value, well, not so great. The beef salad used to be delicious, a properly sliced sirloin, laid out like a sirloin should, now its all sliced and thrown into everything, such a shame, why change perfection? Disappointed this time around.

This place has so much potential, yet unfortunately is a huge disappointment. The fit-out appears to be a well designed and decorated Japanese restaurant, only falling short by a few particular details, and feels as if it should be aimed at being a mid-to-high class ambient eating place, rather than the cheap-eat it is now. It’s not surprising they are close to empty - even on a Saturday night.
A dead plant ineffectively dresses an entrance to the kitchen; the food is dry and leaves much to be desired; the menu’s displayed on the glass to passersby; and the sushi train with old dry sushi pieces devalue’s what could be a successful restaurant and leaves diners wanting more.
The beautiful decor, and great choice of crockery, ginger carrier and service could be added to with table cloths, nicer glasses, less tables better spaced, nicer napkins, dimmer lighting, real wasabi (afterall that IS their name), a better chef, a hidden sushi train used only a lunch and turned into a sushi bar at night, and menu showcasing proper Japanese cuisine would really do this place justice.
For me, ‘Wasabi’ is so close yet so far... I really hope they can work it out before it’s too late.

I've eaten here 6 times now and I'm sad to say the most recent time was one of my worst experiences. The dumplings were nice - garlic veggie and prawn, but the sang choi bau was tasteless and worst yet. We found a caterpillar, its eggs and babies in the Chinese vegetables!!! Sadly, and sickingly - we didn’t realise until we reached the bottom of the plate and found a big green one - which my friend almost ate, thinking it was a tiny stalk. That is when I realised the black things I removed from some leaves before eating them were not spices, but eggs. And the little green thing on the side of my friends bowl was a baby caterpillar!
When we complained and showed the waiter, his response was "Soooooo?", to which I responded "Sooooo, we aren't paying for it - or coming back!". We then left and don't intend on returning again. We felt very sick afterwards - more so at the thought I'd imagine. So diners beware! Yuk!

This place is a gem! The service is great! The food is mouthwatering, especially the Wagu! And the value is perfect. We had umeshu, Asahi, edamame, spicy tuna handroll, sushi-entree, salmon sushi, and wagu (Yum!). It was all so delicious and fast. Can't wait to go back again! Highly recommended!
