My wife had been talking about taking me here for at least 2 years and we finally got there yesterday. Walking in through a warehouse and up a fire escape and then through a bunch of shelves stacked with italian foods was an interesting entrance. It was busy so we put our names down and hovered with everyone else, I didn't enjoy that as the person controlling the list was so busy there was time to be friendly. We got seats at the bar after 25 minutes and had a friendly waiter keep us fed and watered.
A very extensive menu is on offer, we had meatballs and chicken salad. The meatballs were like sausage meat which was unexpected, we weren't sure what they were supposed to be, tasted ok. The chicken salad was ok too. However, given how busy it was, I felt the food wasn't great enough to wait that long for, and the ambience was too "warehouse" and not enough "cosy" for me personally.

Very good cafe, the "benny" (eggs benedict) was really scrumptious, coffee was nice, staff were friendly and accommodating given there was a bit of a wait. The menu had a bit of attitude, i.e. there were a few innovations in there, but with solid groundings.

I had read about this place somewhere with a positive review so arrived with pretty high expectations. It is food for sharing so we had a few dishes, good variety. General standard was reasonable, the beef was probably the best, the salads were quite good. Service was fine. Basically everything was fine, but not quite enough to make me rush back. I'd recommend people give it a go, as you might like it.

Had breakfast here, shared a cooked breakfast and a Bircher muesli, both pretty tasty. Coffee very nice and ambience great, quite a large place and very bustling. Only thing we didn't love was that they won't put 2 people on a table for Three or four, even tho their table for four are tiny. To be fair, after they said we'd have to wait 15 minutes he ended up feeling a little sorry for us and gave us one of the free tables for 3 after a short wait.
Response from Management:
I read your review & score with simple gratefulness.
I am honored! And I appreciate such high score from you. Reading your other reviews, you have dined in some really reputable establishments but still scored us very highly. I am so grateful and encouraged.
Weekends are getting very busy and things are getting a little hectic especially in cold winter days when is too cold to seat customers outside. We try to manage our tables as wise and effective as possible to accommodate and please as many loyal and new customers indoors. We are hoping to have an outdoor cover for our outdoor seating soon.
Your favorable review means a lot to us, and we are truly very humbled by your comments.
Thank you very much for your kind review,
Regards
Tom

Nothing bad about this place, but also nothing that would have me rushing back. Probably the best bit is an interesting wine list. The food menu was very limited and not much of it appealed to me. I had the terrine which was ok, followed by a vegetable medley which missed the mark. Service was ok. Ambience was ok. All round ok.

Top marks for this place, service was excellent, food was of a very good standard, and good portions too. Lovely ambience.
We had calamari, zucchini flowers and then warm pork salad and gnocchi, with sticky date pudding for dessert. All the food was of a good standard, if not mindblowing it was tasty and well created with good touches and nice ingredients.

I had the ravioli (very good) followed by mackerel (outstanding) and my wife had ocean trout (good) followed by lamb (ok). The presentation and food combinations were winners and the quality of ingredients seemed top notch especially the mackerel. The portion sizes noted by other reviewers below weren't a problem for me.
We found the service while friendly was both slow and forgetful in that drinks didn't arrive and the main took a lot longer than I'd have liked. I would go back based on quality of food, and I think we were just unlucky on service, everyone else seemed quite happy.

Work lunch on a Friday. $10 lunch special. Most people had to wait 45-60 minutes for food. When the charcoal chicken salad finally came it was all cabbage and minimal chicken. One of the worst salads.

I've been to Jamie's Italian in bath and Bristol in the uk and had a generally good experience. Hence keen to try the Sydney one. 6 is not a bad score for me, and I didn't leave Jamie's feeling disappointed but neither will I be rushing back. An hour wait for a table on a Tuesday due to the no bookings policy; a table which was too dark and too cold; service which was efficient but rarely friendly. As to the food it was passable with one or two highlights and one or two low lights. Unfortunately both mains, particularly the carbonara were in the low light category. The thing is that it's pretty cheap so you can't expect gourmet at these prices, but for me there are one too many misses.
