I have visited Kawa six or seven times in the last 18 months. I was disappointed upon my first visit but felt like it had the potential to be good and maybe I had just caught them on an off day. Now, after numerous visits, I am confident that Kawa is just not a very good cafe.

The food is both underwhelming and overpriced, the coffee is unremarkable at best and the banana smoothie was more of a banana chunkyandlukewarmie. The absolute low point of each visit though has been the service. The staff generally operate between surly and snooty and aren't afraid to really take their time with everything.

I've tried hard to bring an open mind to Kawa on a number of occasions but time and time again I've found myself go home with overpriced regret.

I have a lot of love for Peaberry Espresso. The service is fantastic. The staff are efficient and attentive whilst managing a pleasant and laidback demeanor. Everyone is very friendly and accommodating.

The food is delicious and I would say the pricing is between "fair" and "cheap". I've had bits and pieces from all corners of the sensibly-sized menu and have never been disappointed. The coffee is great, Darren really knows what he's doing. In addition to the house blend, there is generally a "monthly special" blend in case you feel like a change. The Indian Elkhill blend was a great one while it lasted.

The vibe/ambience is nice and casual. Not glitzy, yet it doesn't fall into the trap of bad boho. Functional without appearing cheap.
