The food was presented beautifully with a nice flower on each plate. But food was over cooked. My chicken and others I was dining with was dry and unedible. The creme brulee for dessert was needing a chisel to get past the burnt top, the creme was dried out and none of us could eat it. Waiter service was great, very polite, happy staff.

Noise is a Big problem as the main table is right in the middle of 3 separate walk through areas, one being the toilets! The piped music overhead was too loud and when we asked for it to be turned down was told management wouldn't allow that.
The upper level opens onto the lower level bar which on a Saturday evening was full and very noisy, with the whole front of the place being opened up onto the main street, which of course carried up to us trying to talk to each other.

Our large group left as we could not even hear the person next to us speaking.
Felt more like a working class pub, than a fine dining restaurant. Disappointing as Cato's has a very big reputation being part of the Sheraton Hotel. I come from Victoria and would not go again on my next trip.

Looked intriguing as an old grocer store. Lots of interesting history adorned the walls. But, old high ceilings, wooden floors, and bare brick walls made the noise levels quite intolerable. No one greeted us to seat us so we took a table ourselves. Waited for 10 minutes, had been seen by a waitress but still no menu. My friend got up and got them for us. After another 10 minutes still no one to take our order. My friend went up to the main desk and said we were ready to order. He made a little joke about wombat stew and was told by the chef, "I don't have time for this, what do you want?".

Food came out in reasonable time. Looked great, presented very well, HUGE serving. I had Tandoori Chicken in Roti bread with garlic sauce.....Well, I counted the chicken bits...4....they were fatty and I had to spit the fat out, which was not very nice! The roti bread was so rubbery I could not cut it (mind you the knife was blunt too!).

I found a teaspoon of garlic sauce hiding in amongst some very horrible stale lettuce mix. One cherry tomatoe cut into quarters, was over ripe and disgusting. The roti wrap had enough lettuce mix in it to sink a ship and yet there was more on the side with red onion!

Our order of two hot chocolates made at the time of the main meal never arrived, had to ask, they apologised at the wait. The level of light was impossible, it was a cold day and no heating was available. The menu print could not have been any smaller! All in all a very disappointing place to eat.

As a gluten intolerant diner, this place was great! BUT, the plates are overly large for the small tables, leaving us to shuffle our drinks about for fear of knocking them over. The service was very good. My vegetarian burger was very enjoyable, and fairly reasonably priced.

Only one thing put me off going again was the noise level. There is an open area to the kitchen and being such a small place the crashing of plates and cutlery was difficult to talk over. All in all though a very good small eatery. Just wish they would open for dinner!
