It has been several years since this restaurant won an award for its food and based on my recent experience, its easy to see why. Service was average (our waitress told us on arrival that she was exhausted and couldn’t wait for the day to be over).

Food was beyond disappointing. My husband and I had the Seared Scallops and Crystal Bay Prawns for entrée which were both lacking in creativity and flavour, followed by the Duck (which was cold) and Angus Sirloin (tough and not cooked medium as requested). Whilst $24 for entrées and $38 for mains is not expensive, its certainly not cheap and these meals certainly did not justify the cost.

Furthermore, when I asked the waitress to order as taxi, she gave me the phone number to call myself and suggested we wait outside so we don’t miss it. I was less than impressed given it was 10 pm on a Friday night, in the middle of winter.

With so many gorgeous places to choose from in the Hunter, I would give this restaurant a miss!

Riverview Hotel, Balmain

Gorgeous food and wine in a relaxed environment. Upstairs is beautifully renovated without being pretentious or over the top. A hidden treasure in Balmain, can't wait to return!

What a disappointment! Food was tasteless and boring we had two entrees, two mains and a mixed side platter, all were completely average, will never return!

I really cant speak highly enough if this place. Such an amazing setting with gorgeous food and wine to match! My husband and I lead very demanding lives and found lunch here to be the perfect way to de-stress, unwind and relax! Make sure you get a window table for the best view- although the whole place is stunning. For what you get I found it to be reasonably priced with lots of little extra complimentary tastes along the way, including complimentary wine tasting of the waitresses favourite wine! We enjoyed a 4 course lunch on a sunny Novembers day and luckily didn't experience the mosquito problem mentioned in some of the other reviews. Can't wait to come back!

Have been here a few times now, keep coming back for the really yummy food. Go the banquet for loads of food at $55 a head! Love venue, the food, and the cocktails, definitely worth a visit!

I was a regular at the Welcome as we live in the area, however, I am disappointed to say the standard of the meals coming out of the kitchen has significantly dropped in the last 6 months. I'm not sure if there has been a change in hands or if the chef has changed but after giving this previously loved establishment more then a few chances to get it right, I am sad to say I will not be returning.

Great Value and yummy food! I have my last birthday here and had the set banquet (there was 25 of us). There was more than enough food for everyone and we all had a ball! The belly dancer was average but the atmosphere was great nonetheless. I would definitely recommend Al Mustafas for a group booking.
