Comments pretty much reflect the experience of other diners'. Service was appalling, especially when the restaurant was only a quarter full. Other diners' on the night seemed to be frustrated with the lack of attention they were getting too.

The staff were also inflexible with swapping the potato gratin (which is served with all grilled meats) for chips. The meat was good and cooked to our liking. Service needs to improve. Best thing about the meal, is that this restaurant is in the Entertainment Book entitling you to a complementary main meal.

After struggling to find a place in Melbourne city which specialises in peking duck and is BYO, we decided to go to Da Hu, although we were hesitant based on other patrons' reviews.

In short, this place does not serve "authentic" peking duck. Instead you get small slices of duck meat which is dry in texture and lacking the lustre of glistening duck skin (that is, if you order the half duck serve). On the upside, the pancakes were fresh which made the dish. We also had a fresh fish with shanghai spicy sauce which was exceptional.

The service was fairly poor and the ambience tired. Expect to eat dinner to the background shrill of the senior staff barking out orders to the kitchen in chinese. The serving sizes were reasonable and the price was fairly good value for money.
