It is somewhat fitting that with the departure of Luke Mangan's name from The Palace, that the regally named John King moves in to own kitchen operations. Having worked in some impressive kitchens with the most recent being The Royal Mail Hotel, it looks like this is the opportunity for John King to make a name and reputation for himself in one of the classier gastropubs in town.

Check out the blog for full review. I’ll come right out with it. I like Syracuse, in fact I like it a lot. I could leave the review at that and happily give it a 14/20 and move on, but that wouldn’t give a lot of insight as to why.
The main thing I like about Syracuse is that once upon a time this would have been a bit of a mamasitta, that is popular, hard to get in to and have a bit of an attitude. Today it is still a very smart restaurant with a fantastic wine list, knowledgeable staff and one can normally get a table as a walk in, but it is never empty.

Good steak house, was quite surprised by the quality of the steak and how well it was prepared. Most steaks average around $45 and the New York Strip (500g) was cooked to medium rare perfection. The wine list is perhaps a bit short and a bit marked up, but if you want a great steak then it is highly recommended.
Only downside was table service which was a bit slow. Slow to take an order, slow to bring out the wine, but a bit too quick to clear us out.

With little to separate the Chinese restaurants in Chinatown, I still find myself coming back to Kun Ming. Is it the comfortable environment which is not too formal, yet not the Laminex table treatment of some of the newer low-brow dining spots in the city? Perhaps, or perhaps, it is the great Chinese food at great prices. Having been there easily more than 10 times and running the gauntlet of their extensive menu, there is little to disappoint.
The Peking duck is good and the Hot and Sour soup is fantastic. Calamari is cooked to perfection with a nice touch of salt and chilli that compliments but does not over power and favourites such as Cantonese steak are tasty and tender. Banquets start at the low $30's and are great value. Would strongly recommend this restaurant over most of the Chinatown strip.

Good suburban Italian restaurant. Food is generally good, service friendly and outstanding value. BUT, it can be very noisy when eating in and when busy turning food out, quality and standards can drop a bit. The most obvious example is a pizza coming out a few minutes too early. That said, it is a safe bet and the best dining in experience along that strip of North Rd.

Dreadfully slow service compared to what would otherwise be OK food. The interior is ho-hum at best, painted cinder-block is hardly going to win a vogue magazine award. Food is OK, but when you wait 40 minutes for an entree of Dim-Sums and another hour for mains, there are some major issues here. Was not limited to our table, another table commented they should have phoned for take-away in which case they would have received their food a lot earlier compared to a dine in customer.

Very enjoyable suburban chinese restaurant. Not Flower Drum, but it doesn't pretend to be. The lady who runs the restaurant is friendly and service is generally good along with the food. Food is delivered promptly and is always good quality, they will also tailor dishes if you dislike certain vegetables etc. Best Chinese along Centre Rd.
