Dined here for lunch. Food was very casual for the price you pay: entree we shared: salt and pepper calamari which was tasty and crunchy, lunch I had the flat head fish and chips and my husband had the gourmet cheeseburger. We ordered a side of potatoes with chorizo and 2 drinks (1 being a cocktail and the other juice). Bill came to around $120.

We wouldn't usually pick such rustic and casual food at such an upmarket place but the other options sounded unappetising for lunch on a hot day. Staff were quirky and friendly enough but visibly stressed from the workload. Wouldn't go again since their fine dining menu doesn't sound appealing.

Rabbit ragu was disappointing, meat was tough, tasteless and unattractively flaked (like large brown chunks of tuna), pasta was hand-made but not fresh that day.

Spatchcock was boring, seasoned with salt and pepper, plonked on a bed of mash drowned in olive oil, the whole plate was one colour and flavour, needed some parsley and lemon to liven things up a bit.

Don't get the homemade bread either, very hard and had a fishy aftertaste. The one good thing-complimentary appetiser: warm carrot soup with basil oil, this tasted lovely which made the other items we paid for seem even worse!

Service-attentive and friendly. Atmosphere-dark and eerie (especially when you go upstairs to the toilets).

What a shame! such a cosy and cute little restaurant. Too bad about the service and food! The senior staff member, was bossing everyone around (including the customers) was awful! First of all she glared at us when we were shown to a table, then after 5 minutes she rudely and loudly (in broken english) told us to move and share a table with another couple who were already seated.

She pretty much pushed me over impatiently exclaiming that the table we sat down at was reserved for someone else. This is after another staff member had checked if that table was free! She didn't even ask the other couple if it was ok for us to join them and we had to apologise on her behalf! It was so awkward! After taking our orders in a mad rush and leaving us to sit akwardly next to another couple who clearly wanted to have a romantic dinner, I was even more disappointed by the food!

Very expensive ($30 main) and nothing tasted fresh. Presentation of meals were ugly and the kitchen looked very dirty and messy. Never once saw the chef come out and say hello despite the charming reviews below. When we went to pay the bill we had to face the agro staff member again who was even more unhappy to see that we were using an entertainment card voucher. After snatching the voucher out of our hands in a huff she then said..."is this your first time here?"..."you don't like german food"? to which we answered "yes" and "yes, we usually do like german food".

ps- on leaving we noticed that they over-charged us on drinksbut we really just wanted to get the hell out of that nut-house! Never again!

Disappointed. I agree with the other critiques below about the wait staff. Service was fair, no one could speak english properly and what is with the maitre d' in his haughty suit? The food was bland, don't get the wedges as a side dish as they are just over-fried and boring. To be honest, it's like a very overpriced, posh fish and chip place with nice views of the brown river. I actually much prefer the succulent fish and chips I buy from my local fish and chip store!

Be warned, the staff are trained to up-sell constantly too. Very suprising for such a posh venue. They were incessant. After we placed our meals and decided against entree's (cost avg. $26 each!) they still tried to persuade us to buy a plate of oysters to share.

Then waiters kept milling back and forth asking if we wanted to order some "Asahi Beer" etc, when no one on our table was drinking beer at all and what made them suggest that brand to us? I couldn't wait to leave.

Good fish and chips. Great salad. Nice drinks. Would return more often if it was more central.

The fish and chips takeaway was very average. The chips were very greasy and the crumbed fish quite boring and bland. I would not go back again. The fish pieces on display also looked like they were drying out. Decked out like a gourmet fish kitchen, it was a disappointment.

Poor service. Very snooty attitude and pretentious. You get the feeling the staff are there to suck as much money out of you as possible and then push you over with their upturned noses. Food is overpriced and the staff made me feel unworthy.
