I had my 50th birthday at Ruby on 20 May, about 35 people including some children. The original planning and organisation was thorough, and on arrival at Ruby I was made to feel both welcomed and valued. Nothing seemed too much trouble for the staff and my guests commented favourably on both the venue and the food. This really made a great day even better and I would not hesitate to recommend Ruby for a function. Thanks.

We had to have a banquet because there were 8 of us (1 vegetarian). They accommodated the vegetarian with some of the banquet only (entree and salad). I guess we could have said no and gone elsewhere but we would not have found anywhere else on a Saturday night in Surry Hills. Tables very crowded together and they rushed us out once we had paid to turn the table over.

A pity because the food is not bad, although spicier than my previous experiences of Vietnamese food (including in Vietnam). Probably wouldn't go back.

Ate there on Saturday, 11 Feb. Plenty of trolleys, good service and food was as good as any in Chinatown. Would definitely go back.

I have eaten at Unversal in Nov & Dec 11. The first time I was blown away by the quality of the food and the care taken to match food & wines - our group of 8 couldn't fault the place and all agreed it was fantastic food and value for money. The second time, I knew what to expect but was pleased to see some items on the menu had changed which meant more variety. I was not disappointed at all and would not hesitate to go back again. Staff attentive, but on the cheeky side if you are up for it. Food beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked. Wine matching thoughtful and a little out there which was great. Dish of the night - Gaytime Goes Nuts for dessert - brilliant!
