Absolute gem! We've been searching for a great Indian restaurant close to home for the past 3 years and I think we've found it.
The food is fantastic, rich and full of flavour. And the service oh the service. Good old fashioned customer-focused service. Exceptional. We had a good chat with Sanjeet, the owner, and when we asked for the bill, we were told to wait. Next thing we know, two bowls of home made mango ice cream were brought to our table! How about that!
Will definitely be back.

Lunch was pretty decent. The chicken burger came in a impressively large portion, which is great. Just as we were finishing up, one of the staff came around to give out free bags of coffee (beans, ground or for plungers). Great stuff!

Our original plan was to get our feed at the Abbotsford Convent Bakery but noticed this quaint little establishment right next to it. We didn't even realise it was a Japanese restaurant until we stepped inside. Despite their rather small menu, it's well worth it. It prides itself as a Japanese Soul Food restaurant and it does just that. We went for the Bento lunch set and everything on the plate (yes, a plate not a box) exudes zen-ness (if there's such a word).
The dish looked very well put together and tasted absolutely delicious. I have to say I'm not one who would opt of brown rice and beans if I had a choice but I finished every last grain. It was a meal that left us full, contented and healthy. And all for $12 per person! How good is that!

We went for the Set meals and I have to say that I was sorely disappointed. On paper, the set meals looked great with a wide variety. But when the dishes came out, I can't believe we're paying $55 per person for them! It said it included mixed vegetables, but it didn't say that it meant 6 cucumber slices, 6 pumpkin slices and 4 white mushrooms! And the beef. They were tiny bite-sized pieces and this was supposed to be dinner. Having said that, they were tasty although they would probably be heaps nicer if they were cooked by professional chefs instead.
What really annoyed me was getting charged $4.80 for a extra small dish of kimchi! That's absolutely ridiculous considering I can get a whole tub of it at Chinatown just around the corner. If you expect to be full after dinner without breaking the bank, avoid Takumi.

It was a pleasant place for breakfast. Although I have to say that $3 for extra hash browns is a little steep.

We decided to go to Bisq because we had a scoopon for their all-you-can-eat brazillian bbq at only $20 (usually $49).
When we got there, the restaurant was only half full and everyone was seated, looking rather impatient. Apparently the kitchen wasn't ready and they were told to wait despite the salad bar being open.
Apart from the salad bar, they had a hot food section which was less than impressive. Soon, they came around with the bbq on a skewer. They were bite sized pieces so we thought maybe we could get a couple but no. It's one piece per person. If you wanted more, you have to wait for the next round of skewers.
Thankfully for us, we managed to get to sample all of the 5 options (sausage, chicken, pork, rib and steak). How did I know there was 5 options? They had a whiteboard that charted the table numbers and when you've been served, they put a "X" next to your table number. Stupid system if you asked me.
It was a terrible experience. The people running the restaurant didn't seem to know what was going on, there was no clear routine or indication the order in which things were supposed to take place. The waiting staff were constantly looking confused. That's not a situation you want to be in when you've got a roomful of hungry customers with their $20 all-you-can-eat scoopon voucher. Will not be returning. Ever.

Absolutely love the coffee there! I've been working around the corner from Errol's Cafe for over 4 years now and have seen several baristas come and go but the standard of their coffees have remained consistent. Well done!

What a little gem! our friends introduced us to this little establishment where we had brunch on the weekend. rustic, intimate, friendly and homely, that's how it feels. it's the kind of place you would catch up with friends on a Sunday morning.

Loved the decor but unfortunately, wasn't impressed with the food. We had the rockling on a bed of rocket salad. The fish was a little overcooked. But the rocket salad was terribly bitter. I'm a huge fan of rockets but this is inedible (for me at least). We finished off our lunch with coffee which I found to be just average. A shame considering the number of wonderful cafes in the vicinity. Maybe time to lift their game?

A friend brought me to Gaylord last night and she had many good things to say about it. Unfortunately, it failed to live up to my expectations. The decor was cheesy and rather try-hard. The service was below par, trying to get the attention of the waiting staff was a feat in itself. And the food, well, nothing spectacular about it. We order a curry dish each and rice. For a $15 chicken curry, I would expect more than 5-6 small pieces of chicken. Not good enough. It's really disappointing to see such low standards in Melbourne. I think we all deserve better.
