The Scholar is usually our choice for a Yum Cha lunch. We have not been there for dinner / a la carte.
Timing is everything for this place. You will get ok service and the best selection during busy times. If you go at the end of the meal time, expect to be slightly disappointed.
At its best, you will get quick service and a massive selection of awesome yum cha. If they were able to maintain the same level of service and quality regardless of time of day, this would set them apart form all other Yum Cha in Canberra and I would not hesitate in giving them full marks.
Best dished (imho) is the Lobster Dumplings, Sesame Prawn Rolls and the Emperor Custard Buns for desert. The squid ain't to bad either, but it has it's good and bad days.
We've been there many times, so while i am critical of the place on bad days, we're obviously happy enough with it to keep going back.

MrCritics clearly has not eaten 'real Vietnamese'. My wife is born and raised in Vietnam and loves this place.
The Pho served here is the real thing and is the best in Canberra. Only a trip to Bankstown's "Pho An" could possibly one up on this place, but I personally don't think it is that much better, if at all. It is small, on the main road in Gungahlin shops with a great and friendly host.
Highly recommended for those who want to try one of the signature dishes of Vietnam.

Finally got to eat in here and was very happy in this initial visit. It was a quiet Sunday evening at approx 1745 when we sat to eat. We were quickly attended to and our entree brought out very quickly. Best prawn toast we ever had, and included real prawns. Our other dishes were the Singapore Special Chilli (Pork) and Soft-shell Crab. Both delivered soon after our entree was finished.
The Pork was good, but our favourite was the soft shell crab. Best I have had in Canberra and I previously had to attend previous favourites when visiting Sydney to get soft shell crab that good.
This was just a first visit for us, but we were very pleased and will go back again to try other things on the menu.

We were regular customers until they recently had to shut down (temporarily) to address some staff issues. We were always very impressed by the quality of the food there and the service we received. The restaurant is quite lovely and stands out in the south west of Sydney, where it is difficult to find a fine dining restaurant. It is expensive, but I'm happy to pay considering how far else you'd have to travel to find something as good.
Before they shut down, we booked a function (dinner/reception post wedding for me and my wife). Stan was very, very accommodating. They honoured our booking despite being unable to open to the public. Stefan (chef) cooked up incredible meals for me, my wife and our family. I can't say enough for how well we were looked after.
Whilst not currently open, you can still experience the good food being offered from Stans team at Davo's in Moorebank Sports Club on Heathcote Rd towards Holsworthy train station. After the restaurant on Nuwarra re-opens, make a booking, get in there and have a good feed.
October 2011 Update: After trading as "Enzo's Trattoria" for a while, the original staff have re-opened the restaurant again as Davo's. We went back recently and the food was as good as it was prior to their temporary shut down. There has been some minor refurbishment of the restaurant (lick of paint and some minor features updated) and the staff are as friendly as ever. Glad to seem them back trading again.

The food is brilliant and the staff are friendly and happy (something missing from many Asian restaurants these days). You must try the Peking crispy skin duck pancakes. Addictive!
