Today we celebrated a birthday at Tetsuya’s. We were lucky enough to have a window table in the upstairs room, which is understated, elegant and has spectacular views over the manicured Japanese garden.
The service is friendly, familiar and honest. We really enjoyed our rapport with the staff, although particular acknowledgement must go to James our Sommelier who was simply brilliant, and deserves individual praise.
We had the additional $90 per head wine matching option, which gave us a chance to try wines we never normally experience, and gave us a true appreciation of the food/wine matching skill. A number of times the true mastery of matching the right wine with the food became apparent during the meal when the chemistry of a mouthful of food and its companion wine surprised and delighted us.
Every dish is fresh, innovative, revolutionary and delicious. The dishes change with the seasonality and quality of the produce, so I will not bore you with details here, suffice to say, every dish is a winner at Tetsuyas.
From the understated elegance of the room, to the quality of the staff, to the unmatchable quality of the food, Tetsuya’s gets straight 10’s from us, the first time we have ever awarded such an accolade.

The 2 of us had dinner at Ad Lib tonight and were pretty underwhelmed. For entree I had the steak Tartare, which was nice, but lacked the excitement this dish has elsewhere. The bride had Sea Scallop carpaccio, which was also nice, but cut very thick, which was not what was expected.
For mains I had the Crisp Pork Belly, this too was nice, and surprisingly lean, however it was a very small serve and lacked an over riding flavour like chili or pepper or something, anything. The misses had the Chicken escalope Holstein, despite the description given by our lovely waitress it is chicken schnitzel and is frankly bland and uninteresting. The service we had was wonderful, the food delivery was quick, attentive and accurate, and the prices, well, they are too high.

We love this restaurant. The kids eat any of the sushi or sashimi that goes by. The prices reflect the perfect service and fantastic freshness of the food served. Great Japanese drinks are served, and the quality is consistent, regardless of when you turn up.
If you are coming for lunch, this restaurant is very popular with the office set. We arrived at 12.00 noon, and by 12.30 all 36 seats were taken and there was a queue of 6 people, need I say more?

We had a fun night at Hana. The chef was very entertaining, and the kids thought it was all very exciting, however, the food is very disappointing. The decor is so old that the place is starting to look and feel grubby. The smiling friendly staff are great. The fried rice, is quite simply the worst dish I have ever eaten.

We visited Mumu grill on a cold, rainy Thursday night. The 3 of us were seated promptly and we were pleased to see just how many staff were on for a relatively quiet night.
For Entree we ordered 3 plates to share: 18 month Jamon, deep fried Squid and the Chorizo Braised in red ale and topped with parmesan. All of them were delicious, fresh and tasty, such great flavours, simple yet exciting.
For main courses we had, a Szechuan pepper crusted Prime rib for $38.90 as well as the Beef Fillet wrapped in sage and prosciutto, with Café de Paris butter, on mashed potato for $27.90 and finally the 280 gram sirloin which was $28.90.
All the steaks were cooked perfectly, the mediums were medium and the medium rare had obviously been rested perfectly. The premium quality of beef used does really show through, even our non steak lover really enjoyed her beef fillet. My favourite way of testing a restaurant is to order 2 different wines by the glass to be delivered separately as the entrée’s and mains are delivered, and the excellent staff at Mumu achieved this with discrete aplomb.
Throughout the night the service was prompt and friendly, we all really had a great night. Well done Mumu we will be back, again.

We had a birthday lunch here on Sunday for Grandma. The 8 of us had a great time, we dined up stairs with a terrific view of Dee Why beach. The service was attentive, intelligent and unobtrusive. Upstairs is slightly more expensive, but in my experience, it is far better food, has more staff and the view is infinitely better.
Some of the dishes our party ordered included Fresh basil fettuccine ($20.90) which was al dente, fresh and perfectly seasoned. Schezuan salt and chilli squid ($21.90) just about the best squid dad has ever had, crisp, fresh, tender and plenty of zing. Beer battered fish and chips ($21.90) how good are these chips? This dish was very well received, and featured the same chips as the kids menu. The kids menu is not mentioned on the Deck 23 website, but they do have one, and our kids loved it. We had a great time, and highly recommend Deck 23.

The Fook Yuen is a family Chinese restaurant in Chatswood. It’s very popular so the queuing times are on a normal day are 20 minutes or over. But once they have seated you, the service is very speedy.
There are many staff that make ordering very easy considering the amount of customers. Their waiters are a little short on English so it’s best to go for Yum Cha. They have a strong focus on Seafood but they also do many great beef and pork dishes during Yum Cha. The bathrooms are clean and the air conditioning is very efficient.

This is the rebirth of what was Hong Kong House. We had dinner here recently and really enjoyed it. We ordered Peking Duck, and it was presented to us perfectly and then served in the classic Mandarin style. The kids loved the whole night, and they ate plenty. I too grew up in a family that was told the best Chinese restaurants were full of Chinese families eating in it, well, we were the only caucasians on the night, and we were made to feel very welcome. We are going back next week.

King O'Malleys is laughably bad. We had lunch on a Sunday, a day of so little interest to the Publican that the kitchen hand just reheats whatever fell out of the clean away truck as it emptied the dumpster. One of our guests ordered the tenderloin of chicken which arrived as pre cooked, reheated over sized Schnitzel, which clearly belonged on the nose cone of the space shuttle.
The Guinness pie was a testament to the kitchen hands skills with a microwave. Another guest was so disenchanted with the entire menu they ordered the potato wedges, and was able to eat them. Do not go to this venue, it is truly deeply awful.

We stumbled upon this place for a Saturday Lunch. It was practically deserted which instantly made me worry about the food quality. The service was attentive but discreet. The food really surprised us, perfectly presented medium rare steaks, great burgers and terrific ribs. I too found the "Aussie" names for every dish frankly absurd. I would happily go back.
