I had great expectation about this restaurant. Unfortunately, the reality was very disappointing.
Users on other sites haves said that the calamari is good, so we ordered the calamari for $26.50 (not the stuffed ones) and a seafood platter for $21. The calamari came with about 10 calamari rings and a salad that was soaked in oil. The seafood platter came with about 5 calamari rings, some deep-fried fish and clams, chips, and salad soaked in oil.
First of all, why is the seafood platter better than the calamari dish, while being $5 cheaper?! The salad was very oily and completely unhealthy, so we barely ate it. There was no sauce to go with the seafood. The meal tasted like any other Fish & Chips meal you get at any corner store in Australia. The only difference is here you pay $21-$27, whereas normally you would expect to pay around $13 for a meal like that.
The service was also average. The waitress couldn't explain the difference between two of the veal dishes. When we were leaving I asked the waitress to bring out the bill. We waited for 20 minutes and she didn't bring it out. Tired of waiting I went to the counter and paid, no one said sorry.
The atmosphere was average. I was expecting some nice Greek music, but that didn't happen. We were seated 30 cm away from a very loud function of 20 people, despite the fact that I made an early booking and there were tables available. Finally, there was a waiter who kept walking up and down every 5 minutes and staring at our table. This was very discomforting.
In conclusion, I don't recommend anyone to go to Ostratos, unless you are after very expensive Fish & Chips. If you are feeling brave, you could go and try your luck with non-seafood dishes.
