You'd be entitled to expect hot chocolate at Guylian Cafe to be made from Guylian chocolate, but no - it's dispensed from a popular commercial chocolate milk container, and frothed on a cappucino machine. The pastries were fine, but the quiche was microwaved, and $18 for cut fruit and chocolate sauce, the whole experience is a tad overpriced.

"Bloody good burgers..." - where?

It's hard to say what was in our burgers. They claimed to prime Austalian beef but looked like a slice of dog meat that had been compressed into a 12cm wide sausage. I'm sure it didn't taste anything like dog meat, in fact it didn't taste of anything much at all. On the plus side, the salad was fine, and we had a choice of granary or white bread at no extra cost (no extra cost to the $7.90 to $11.90 price).

The flathead strips looked good ($1.50 a strip). They were slightly reminiscent of a frozen product, and watch out for one or two tiny bones. One of them tasted a little odd - I don't think it was bad, but odd enough to put the rest of that one aside. The hot chips ($2.90 for regular, $3.90 for large) were good enough, with a generous sprinkling of lemon salt. I find it hard to recommend Burgerme, because it just wasn't very good. Perhaps a new slogan might be "Macca's quality, at gourmet burger prices".

You can get a fantastic curry everywhere in the UK, and we have been looking for a restaurant in Sydney that compares - so far, we have not found one, but Nody's gave it a shot. We tried the Maharaja buffet for 2 which at $50 was excellent value, but price is not everything in a dining experience.

Overall, the food was quite good - the starter in particular was excellent, with some authentic tandoori dishes. As another reviewer noted, the poppadums were grilled, when they should have been fried in ghee. The curries that followed were fine, although we would have preferred them spicier, and the sauce in the rogan josh was a bit thin. The sag paneer (spinach with indian cheese) and the naan bread were both excellent - the naan was hot and crispy, which I personally prefer to the stodgy style naan.

Now the bad bit: the service was terrible. It was 40 minutes before our order was taken, and another 40 minutes before the entree arrived. The poppadums arrived with the entree, rather than being brought immediately for us to munch while waiting for the entrees. Nearly another hour passed before our mains arrived, and looking round the restaurant most people were sitting there with empty tables. We left just before 10 pm having had a 7:30 pm reservation.

There were 3 waiters servicing the full restaurant (about 16 tables), one of whom was inept and very nervous, we are guessing that there was only 1 chef in the kitchen. There were tables along side which had not been cleared for the full duration of our meal. The inept waiter dropped beer bottles and glasses at least twice, whilst bumbling back and forth nervously.

Good food, great value, very friendly owners, but dreadful service. We do hope that this was a glitch due to an unexpectedly busy night, and will go back another time to find out.

We moved to Sydney from London where we are used to excellent dim sum (yum cha), so we were looking for a good place here. There is always a long queue for a table which is annoying does show that it is popular. The yum cha is good providing you do not get there too late. The steamed foods are hot and tasty, and the fried foods are good too, not as greasy as some of the cheaper places in Maroubra and Chinatown. Custard tarts are always nicer when served warm. We asked for 'ja leung' which you need to order it as they do not bring it on a trolly, however, the bread filling was chewy and not crispy like it should be. We will try it again, to see if we were unlucky. We had dinner here too, and the food was also good. The portions were so large, we had to take half of it away with us. On the downside, we did wait 50 minutes for our Peking duck, it seems they gave ours to someone else.

Service is fine (for chinese faces, at any rate), and décor is contemporary. Prices are a bit higher than Chinatown though still reasonable, but we find it more convenient to come to Bondi Junction than to Chinatown.
