We were really disappointed in Zen after hearing about it and reading the reviews here. We thought that our local chinese at home was equally as good if not better. We arrived at 6 pm, it wasn't busy, but our entrees came out 15 minutes apart which meant that we had to eat separately for that course. The spring rolls my partner ordered were overcooked, bordering on burnt. We ordered prawns from the special chefs selection that was pretty ordinary and 3 times the price of back home, our vegetable fried rice was the same story!
We don't mind paying decent prices for quality food (Zen between $30 and $40 for mains) but this was local chinese in flash restaurant disguise for us. We will be back to the same order back home in Marrickville next week for a quarter of the price!

Great food but, unfortunately, the service let us down. It was a busy night and they were obviously understaffed. They were very rude. My partner wanted to leave. We ordered entrees and mains, but it all came out at once, it couldn't all fit on the table but they insisted on putting it all on, in the process the waitress tipped over one of our dishes off the table, because, it wouldn't fit!
Food was pretty good. However, the let down was the prawn and vegetable tempura. Prawns fantastic but all we got as vege tempura was clumps of fried onion, we were hoping to feed our 1 year old on the vege tempura so we were then stuck with no food as it is usually sweet potato, pumpkin, beans etc! This happened to be the 'dropped' dish so not sure if the second serve was inferior.
We are from Sydney so it is a shame that we found a great little food gem, but the shocking service lets the place down.
