The view, the view, the view. Food alright but definitely expensive for what it is. Part of the bill is obviously for the excellent view so sit in the balcony area and enjoy it! Service good. Dessert unspectacular.

Excellent location. Food is alright; sushi and tempura not bad (tempura desperately needs dipping broth!) and desserts are worth it, but most items in the menu are ultimately horribly overpriced for a Japanese casual eatery that this place tries so hard to emulate. No way I am paying $20 for a bowl of ramen!
Update: I was forced to have a meal here the other day, and boy was it something. Having guts to charge $20 for what is some teriyaki chicken and green leaves on rice really is something. And the chicken wasn't even that great!

This place serves up fine quality food for reasonable dosh. Average sushi is lifted up by refreshingly unique cucumber and salmon skin roll and other food are also of moderately good standard. Service is average.
Updated: been there again, was curious to try out their jyo-sushi but the middle aged woman waitress declines to tell me what fish will be in it, instead saying that I should "trust the chef as he will pick the best of the day". Result was a very, very average sushi. Fish nothing to shout about and the tuna nigiri in particular was terrible! Another thing that surprised me was how, instead of having gunkan maki of ikura and flying fish roe, they actually mixed the two up and made one gunkan maki of mixed raw fish eggs. I feel that the chef is trying to cheap it out! Food portion feels smaller than before too. Overall, pretty disappointing experience with the sushi which is ultimately not up to the scratch. Tempura was good though, as was the salmon skin roll.

Alright Japanese restaurant but can't understand the hype about it; definitely not one of the best sushi in Melbourne. Sticky scrunched up overly sweet rice topped with mediocre quality ingredient. Been there 3 times including the kaiseki course; never had a bad meal there, but no particularly impressive one either. Not the best value for money.

Ambience is homely (or eyesore depending on your taste) and food is generally good at cheap price. It's the sake that keeps me coming back to the joint though, cheaper than most if not all other Japanese restaurants I have been to in Melbourne. Their sushi ain't too bad, the specials board providing nice variations to the usual suspects in the a la carte menu.

Good value Japanese restaurant; this restaurant is not run by Japanese, but the Korean chef has years of experience cooking the cuisine in high profile restaurants and this shows in the quality of food. Service is polite and unobtrusive and overall food are good value for money. Sushi isn't great though.

Family run establishment may occasionally struggle with influx of orders at times, but are friendly and helpful. Decor is... well, I have seen better decorated restaurants that serve $7 bowl of noodles but that is not the point. This place serves tasty and very enjoyable Japanese food and enjoys an undoubtably deserved popularity in the culinary dessert that is Frankston. Price a little dear though and I would Avoid their sushi at all cost.

Good option for a casual dinner, atmosphere is relaxed but funky, located opposite to the prahran railway station. Food is tasty and service is also prompt and pleasant. Dining out that will not break the bank. Do try out the mentaiko spaghetti for an example of 'fusion' Japanese cuisine eaten by Japanese everyday.

The sushi here is simply DELICIOUS. Don't let other people convince you that it's not authentic and flavour is brash etc; At the end of the day it all comes down to whether the food tastes good or not, and for that shiranui omakase is a no brainer. I do find the price quite dear; ~$100 pp with drinks, bit more if you add dessert which is also quite worthy. I wonder if their sushi menu ever changes though, been there twice with 6 months gap and found them serving the same menu for their sushi omakase. Hot foods are not bad either.

Amazing experience; food is (naturally) mostly tempura, but not the soggy, oily kind; each delicate servings of fine morsels are served straight after they are cooked in fresh oil. Full flavours of each ingredients are brought forward by crunchy, light batter that is frankly the best I have tasted. Sashimi and hors d'oeuvre were also delectable, as was the near perfect panna cotta dessert.
Little touches such as palate-cleanser of apple sake was lovely. Seating only 12, ambience was homely and service top notch. Moreover, there was a real personal feel as each of us customers interacted with the chef and waitresses. A special dining experience not to be missed by any lovers of Japanese food.
