I was finally convinced by business partner to try this restaurant recently. There are such mixed reviews, I was not sure what it would pan out like. But then again, as most restaurants I love have mixed reviews here (you cannot please everyone), I decided to give it a go. The good points: great service, very professional & polite staff. The food though was a great disappointment. The ravioli entree was bland. We had lobster and it was OK...nothing special. Overall disappointing for a meal that cost $700 for three people. I don't recommend it when there are so many better high-end alternatives in Sydney.

Don't let the outside appearance or the decor put you off this brilliant restaurant. Very friendly staff always make us feel welcome. We have been here many times now, mostly on weekends for lunch. The Yum Cha is great and the live seafood is exceptional. We get mud crab and they are always very meaty and well prepared. They bring the seafood to you to inspect and approve, it is as fresh as you can get. Pricing is also very reasonable.

We have eaten at Kingsleys now at least 20 times which in itself is a good recommendation. I cannot say enough about the salt and pepper crab, it is (nearly) always exceptional.

On the negative side, you tend to roll the dice with the staff. Sometimes we have been there and they are brilliant, while other times they are completely disinterested. The last time I was there, I even had a male waiter say "oh well done" in a sarcastic voice because I spilt some water on the table!

Then one time we got a bad crab (full of jelly) and the bread was old and stale. The waiter could not have cared less if he tried. That put me off Kingsleys for about a year. I am happy to say the quality is now right back up there though.

Presentation is not what this place is about, more good quality crab and steak served in a basic way, in a nice location. We will definitely keep coming back.
