We dined here on a deal voucher which gave us 3 entrees, two mains, and beer or wine for 2.

When I called to book on a Sunday morning I was told that I couldn't book for that night without paying a 10% surcharge as it was less than 24 hours notice. This is not noted on the voucher. I then requested a booking for the following Friday and was told that they were full and if I wanted a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday night I would have to book weeks in advance as they were very busy.

Fair enough, so I booked in for the following Thursday night instead. Within 10 minutes they called me back to advise that they had many cancellations and could seat us that Sunday night after all!

We arrived at the restaurant which was mostly empty. The service was sporadic, though the senior staff seemed quite friendly at times. We ordered our meals and were told 10 minutes later that they had run out of spring rolls. We changed our order and they then came back and told us they had 'found more' spring rolls after all. Strangely not long after we had ordered the senior staff came to ask if we had ordered (keep in mind he had taken our order himself and there were only three tables of patrons).

The food was quite good, we had the spring rolls, curry puffs and fish cakes (fish cakes were great) and the crispy chicken and lamb massaman. Both were full of flavour. Unfortunately, however, the senior staff spilt sauce from the plates all over us when he brought the meals to the table.

The wine glasses were generous but we weren't offered any kind of water for the table, though there were water glasses there.

The final negative was when we asked how much we owed for the rice (not included on the voucher and listed at $2 on the menu) and were told $10 for the two of us ($10 for two small portions of rice). We figured maybe the senior staff was trying to get some money back on the deal. Diners beware of the rice!

We definitely won't be back, despite the decent food there is too much competition in the area with better service and equally good food.

We came here on a quiet Tuesday night (again bearers of the great Scoopon deal). Service was fantastic and friendly, but the food was average. The flourless chocolate cake dessert was a highlight. We probably wouldn't visit again if paying full price for the food.

Sushi Tei has always been great for lunch in the past, but recently the service has gone downhill. The wait staff regularly forget to bring dishes (even after a reminder) and some cooked dishes arrive cold. The food is good but the service needs an upgrade please!

Great little Japanese restaurant. Not a fancy restaurant, but great food, great service and fantastic value. One of my favourites!
