I visit Tablespoon regularly for both personal and business meetings, mainly for breakfast. It is spacious, modern, and the staff are pretty efficient (although the faces change a lot).
The coffee is very and the occasional breakfast has been good but not great or memorable - after my many visits to Melbourne and Sydney's east and inner west, I believe Sydney's North Shore and its breakfast offerings by contrast are unimaginative and boring. So by contrast, Tablespoon does not stack up, but compared with the rest of Sydney's north shore, it is quite good.

On a weekend morning, if you are happy to walk through a mulitude of sweaty, very mature men wearing cycling lycra in a self-conscious and knowing way, believeing they've all climbed Everest and all deserving of your admiring and approving eye, then Pattison's is great. So long as you can put up with the flinty service, the very high prices, almost no table service, and the sterile and ambience-bypass environment, as well as the lycra-encased genitalia on display which makes Pattison's smoked salmon quiche turn your stomach , it is wonderful. Oh, did I mention the prices?? This is a money-machine of a place and nothing more. The east and inner west of Sydney have it all over us I'm afraid. The only positive about Pattison's is the pastries and the bread, which are wonderful, but did I mention the prices? On balance, still riding its reputation but basically it has become a superannuation plan for its owners. Oh and the coffee is about 4th on my list of good coffee in St Ives. Top dollar, without the quality to match.
