It's hard to comment on the value as I went on the Festival Fast Feasts deal, but the food was amazing. Outstanding flavours, enough food given the food is pretty rich. In fact was too full to have dessert. Highly recommended.

Had high expectations of Neild Avenue, but, unfortunately, only found it so so. The food was too salty. Salty to the extent of needing a drink to temper the taste. It's a great space, but the jazz music and Spandau Ballet remixes made it seem dated which was a shame. Attentive staff, but the overall bill was disproportionate to the standard of the food.

The restaurant is cramped and pretty loud, but the staff were helpful and attentive. My porcini pasta was delicious, but my biggest issue there was too much food and I like my food! All of us found the mains oversized and it was a shame as we were looking forward to dessert. The veggie menu isn't extensive, but if you're not a fussy veggie, you'll be happy with the choices.

Without doubt one of the worst, most overpriced dining experiences I've ever had.

The wait for a basic plate of nachos in a pretty restaurant was about half an hour. I'd ordered vegetarian fajitas for a main and what I actually got was over cooked ratouille. The description of roasted vegetables in no way resembled the bowl of soup like, over cooked frozen vegetables (complete with cauliflower) I received. I pointed out my disappointment to the waiter who immediately offered a discount off the bill (I got the feeling he had to do that a lot).

When it came time to pay, the front of house argued with me that all the vegetables had been roasted prior to being cooked again. Apparently that even included the broccoli having been roasted and the level of sauce was normal for a paella - I ordered fajitas.

I would seriously advise against going unless you have money to burn, a patience for idiocy and hatred of decent food.

Six of us headed for dinner on a Tuesday night and the first of us arrived at 6.30pm to be told that we couldn't be seated until we all arrived. Our last diner arrived at 7pm and by then, all tables had been taken and a one hour and 45 minute wait ensued. We were given a free starter to share as compensation after being told that a table would be free, but still not having been seated after another 45 minutes.

Fortunately, the food was great and the total cost was really reasonable given we weren't shy on the drinks - not really a surprise when you've got such a long wait for food! However, our table waitress seemed to think she was far too cool for school and at points could only be descried as surly despite initial proclamations of making an extra effort after our wait. A real shame. I would go back, but only very early or very late and certainly not with a group.

Very average food. I didn't realise poached eggs could seem so bland. It's always annoying when there's only two veggie things on the menu, but there's no chance at all of swopping the bacon for even mushrooms as the kitchen staff is far too busy, in an empty restaurant. Of course, I'll still pay the same price when I can't eat a third of the dish. It's not that hard surely to offer something that is listed on the menu at other points. Service was ambivalent at best, of course I'm happy to get my own water and sauces. Won't be back.

Maybe my expectations were too high having heard and read so many good things about A Tavola, but, unfortunately, it disappointed. The veggie pasta was good, but not great. My meat eating companions seemed much happier with the exception of those having the lamb ravioli which was swimming in butter to the extent some couldn't finish it.

What I found most unfortunate was the service. The waitress brought out two salads with prosciutto in them when we actually only ordered one of those and the other salad being vegetarian. Apparently, all eight of us were wrong and according to the waitress we'd ordered two of the same salad and if we'd like to order a vegetarian one, we could order an extra. Apparently at A Tavola it's the waitress who is always right.

After protracted proceedings to pay and so-so veggie food, I can't say I'd be a in a rush to back. Despite the pain of not being able to book, Bootleg offers better food, value for money and service.

The pizzas are great, thin bases, right amount of topping. Good veggie options which is good to see. Despite the pricey wine list and no BYO it's still worth a visit. The service is definitely improving, a few more staff would help.

Having called twice to confirm that we'd like an outside table, I was not only surprised that the request hadn't been noted and not at all happy when the senior staff suggested I was lying. Not a great start. However, the service whilst a little inexperienced was good and the food was tasty. My advice, if you're making a booking, take the person's name and maybe call three times.

Response from Management:
Dear Veggie Reviewer,

I apologise on behalf of our staff if there was confusion with your booking. We are constantly trying to improve our booking taking system which requires a limitation on the actual staff that take booking details to ensure that such incidents are avoided. As you can appreciate where we have a combination of inside and outside dining, the policy is to attempt to ensure that the customer is placed where requested.

Often we receive alterations to these requests and people turning up with extra guests that originally booked for or requesting to change to inside or vice versa.

My apologies if your booking was not handled professionally at the time.

With respect to staff, it is always difficult to attract experienced waitstaff in this industry. We have been fortunate with a number of our staff, but do need to undertake detailed training of more inexperienced staff at time, which involves having them shadow an experienced staff member for a period of time and then being supervised and instructed on the finer points of what is expected in provide above satisfactory service to a customer when dining with us.

Thank you for dining with us, and we hope your next experience is a better one.

Regards

Damian

Every time I come to The Falconer, I love it a little bit more. The staff are spot on with the balance between attentive and obtrusive. The food is tasty and with a great $20 special, you can't complain. The atmosphere is relaxed and you have the feeling you can just hang out and enjoy it rather than being rushed out the door as soon as you've finished your meal.
