Found myself visiting Steer with a group of friends on a Monday night after we tried to find a good restaurant that would be open (as many are shut on Monday nights).
First thing to note is that this is a true steak restaurant American style but with numerous steak options from around Australia, the waiter even brings out real cuts of meat to show you what the daily options are (personally I'm not a huge fan of this as I already know what a raw steak looks like). There were also good alternative options such as fish, chicken, etc.
For entrees our party of 4 ordered the calamari, hot dog, a salad, and the crispy crab roll. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our entrees, they were well prepared and very tasty! For mains 3 of us had steaks and 1 had fish with sides of steak chips, onion rings, and green beans, all of our steaks were cooked to perfection and I really enjoyed mine. We enjoyed them with a good bottle of wine from the Napa Valley California, the wine list was quite extensive.
We also all had deserts which once again we enjoyed. The service during the night was varied, generally it was pretty good but at certain stages it dropped off. The bill came to about $400 for 4 people, so not cheap but I would say worth the experience we had. Personally I would recommend Steer if you are looking for a good meal.

I've walked past the Post Office Hotel so many times on a Friday & Saturday nights and have always seen it packed. The place is not that big too so I can imagine how difficult it could be to get a table on those nights. Lucky enough I managed to visit on a Monday night when there was hardly anyone there, and as a result had an enjoyable night as the staff were not rushed and we virtually had the place to ourselves. We ordered one of the pizzas, as well as the duck Tarts and Zuchini Fritters. The pizza and duck tarts were very good - in particular the pizza as the dough was thin and crisp - it actually reminded us of American style dough. The Zuchini Fritters were not that great. For 3 dishes and two drinks it costed us just over $40 which wasn't too bad. I will definitely be returning.

We just happened to stumble across Taco Loco one night and although it doesn't look like much of a restaurant from the front, they actually have two rooms with tables out the back. I would recommend eating in rather than takeaway - really for all Mexican restaurants as I think the food always tastes better when it's served fresh!
Taco Loco is a family run more authentic style restaurant with a smaller menu. I've visited twice now and have tried the nachos, the fajitas, and last time I had a steak in authentic sauce with rice and beans. Each time I've thoroughly enjoyed my dish, the ingredients are very fresh and you can tell the tortillas are the real deal, home made for sure! Although the ambience isn't the greatest the food is definitely worth a try!

I'm not Vegetarian but my wife is, and I let her drag me along on a Tuesday night at 8:15 pm. First thing we found is that the place was completely full and Vegie Bar is a big place so they must be doing something right! We put our name on a list and were ushered into a waiting bar area. While we waited we were able to have a drink and look at the menu, this was really good!
Once seated in the restaurant we had vegetarian dim sums, I had a pizza with caramelised onions, capsicum and rocket for main, while the wife had a vegetarian pasta. The Dim Sums were really good, to me they actually tasted similar to meat ones. Our main dishes were both pretty good, however, I always had that feeling of wouldn't this pizza be good with some chorizo on it!
My bias meat eating view aside, the Vegie Bar is a must for vegetarians and meat eaters can find something to get by on as well! The Bill was quite reasonable as well.

The only problem about reviewing Earl Canteen is that I really don't want to tell anyone about it because I want to keep it all to myself! Earl Canteen takes sandwiches to a whole new level and if you go at lunch time be prepared to join a queue that stretches out the door. They don't take bookings and the seating is limited so if you do want to eat in make sure you turn up early just after 12 pm before the mad lunch rush. The overall service is very good as the waiters are attentive.
My favourite sandwich is definitely the Pork Belly, you have to watch your waist line with this one though as you'll want more of them. The Wagu Meatball and Steak sandwiches are also equal 2nd favourites. The prices are higher than the normal sandwich but after you eat one you'll understand why!

Walked up and managed to get a table for four on a Sunday night. First thing to notice is how dark and cold the feeling is in the restaurant, also the tables are all pretty close together so if the place was full you would feel crammed. Thankfully the place wasn't that busy.
Ordered some chorizo for entree, nachos, and sizzling chicken and prawn for main, also a margarita jug to share. Everything was good up to the ordering, but after this the problems started. My entree arrived quickly but the chorizo was cold which it wasn't supposed to be! Also nobody else's entree's arrived for another 10 minutes, so I finished my entree before anyone else received any food, that is really bad!
I had a taste of my wife's nachos and they tasted burnt, they really didn't taste good at all. Next my main course arrived and I was just about to bite into it when I realised the prawns had the tails left on them, it's so dark in there I almost missed it. So here I am trying to pry the tails off the prawns and sure enough, due to them being covered in sauce one slips and sauce gets all over me. That kind of dish should not have tails left on the prawns!
To top it off the service during the night was as rude as other people have noted on here, one of the waitresses continually ignored us when we asked for something and also she would continually ask us a question but then answer it herself and walk away before we could give her an answer..... what the?
One more bit of icing on the cake was that they tried to overcharge us $200 by somehow combining our bill with someone else's. When they finally did figure it out the bill was still very expensive, the margarita jug drinks are an unbelievable price rip off!
Do yourself a very big favour and go to a different Mexican restaurant, there are much better ones in Melbourne!

I have always wanted to try Rockpool and I finally had my chance on a Tuesday night in July. We had an early booking at 6:30 pm so service was extremely attentive and friendly. It did slow a little later in the night when things became busy. First thing to note is that the atmosphere is very modern and intimate due to the darkness, if you are able to score a table near the window it is worth it as the crown casino fire outside makes for a good view.
For entree I had marinated bbq prawns and the wife had a salad. Both were good but my prawns could have been better if they had some kind of sauce. For main course I had a medium done wagyu steak with Bearnaise sauce, while the wife had New Zealand fish done in a cream sauce. The fish was excellent and my steak was also very good as it melted in my mouth, only thing I could fault was that it was slightly underdone in parts which shouldn't happen in a restaurant that prides itself on steaks.
The sides we had were pink potatoes, cauliflower with cheese, and mixed greens - the sides were just ok, they were simple and nothing extraordinary. For dessert we were struggling to find something on the menu that was really mouth watering until our waiter suggested the chocolate cake on rice crispy, this was a really good choice as thoroughly enjoyed it!
The wine list is extensive and expensive, we had a couple of glasses and paid at least $14 per glass. The total bill came to $255 for two people which is pretty expensive. One big negative was that they charged us $17 for two glasses of still water, what a rip off that is! Overall Rockpool is worthwhile for a special occasion and we will be returning for a meal as the food was pretty tasty.

Booked late on Friday for a table of six and when we arrived the place was packed but we were seated straight away. The service is very friendly and polite, our waiter was always smiling which is great to see and the food and drink came out in very good time. The ambience is not too bad, can be a little noisy if the restaurant is full but the quality of food makes you forget about it.
Overall the food was great, definitely recommend the peking duck entree and the salt and pepper calamari for a main. The spring rolls for entree were also tasty. The Lobster and meat dumplings special for entree were ok but not great. The wine list is limited but there are some good wines on there. Overall everyone in our party was happy with the food so New Kum Den will have us returning.

Dalmatino is one of the reasons why Melbourne has the best restaurants in Australia. The traditional Croation food is amazing, in particular you must try the Njoki (Potato Dumplings) in the non meat sauce, so delicious. My partner has polish background and this dish is almost identical to a dish her mum makes, Pierogi - we haven't been able to find it anywhere else in Australia. The menu is also quite extensive with many traditional croatian dishes available.
The atmosphere is nice and relaxed and all the wait staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The wine list is also quite good with a number of bottles on offer from various regions. We will definitely be returning for the Njoki alone - ordering multiple plates off it next time!

We visited on a Monday night and the place was pretty empty. The food was terrible, the service was a joke, and speaking of jokes, the first act was heckled and then booed off stage because he was so bad. Thank god he cut his act short and left the building early!
The night was recovered by the remaining 3 comedians, although they were unable to do the phone pranks because the phone wasn't working properly? If I ever go back it would definitely be on another night, and I wouldn't eat there before the show!
