For the money we paid, our expectations of the food just wasn't met, we didn't feel "wow" about any of the dishes. Both the quail and beef dishes were chewy, mainly because the fillet wasn't cooked enough and sinewy.

Service was great, we were never left wanting for anything. Our water glasses and wine were being continually topped up without asking, and the dishes came out at the right times.

As for ambience, it is certainly an experience to walk into this haven in the middle of a busy City, but decor of the upstairs room is just dull.

This restaurant has a modern look about it(in comparison to many Italian restaurants), and the food reflects that.

The various pasta dishes seemed fresh and cooked al dente. The swordfish carpaccio interesting although a little lost in all the oil, but the oil was fresh and without any hint of rancid tones. A little more seasoning would have helped.

The rabbit was nice, again a little underseasoned but you can always add salt and pepper to your liking. The desserts were a hit too. The service was efficient and friendly. If you're looking for good Italian, then I'd recommend La Ricetta.

We had the Tapas set menu. The strange thing was that the food was not particularly Latin to me (unless they do mini burgers and chips?), but it certainly tasted nice and fresh! That mini burger was juicy and the chips were fat and slightly crispy. the other more latinish foods were also tasty - I've been to so called Spanish restaurants where freshness doesn't seem to be a priority.

We had "Grant Denyer" serving us, he did well but he seemed to be on his own most of the time and was working pretty hard, so we felt wanting a couple of times - not his fault. I'd be interested to see what their standard fare is like, so may head back someday.

Ok, back again in 2011 - under 4 years as promised. But so are their scores. It is such a great spot, it is a pity they can't meet the expectations it's locale presents.

The fish of the day was John Dory, more like sole (ie rubber sole). Sheesh, not cheap for bland over cooked fish. I give up.

From 2010 - Food 9 Ambience 6 Service 9 Value 9

After 4 years we made our back to Shipwrights, and this time we really enjoyed our meals. The only thing that hadn't changed was that we were still attended to by every waiter, but much more timely and friendly this time.

The serves weren't big, but by the end were big enough. However, they were fresh, clean and tasty. I won't be waiting 4 years for a return visit.

From 09 February 2006 - Food 6 Ambience 6 Service 5 Value 5. The restaurant isn't all that big, yet we had every waiter attend to us at some stage, sometimes straight after each other, sometimes not at all, no consistency.

Food was similar, some nice and some bland, it didn't live up to the other reviews. I was really looking forward to having somewhere nice in the district for fine dining.

I was going to write a review but the review dated Dec 12, 2010 just echoed my thoughts exactly. What I didn't appreciate was having a second bottle of $parkling water poured without checking with me first. It just adjusted for in our tip. But that aside, it was still worth doing.

For Thai it seemed a bit expensive. However, the food was mostly very good. The betel leaf entree was packed full of intense flavours. The green curry prawns was too light for my liking. And the Crisp Salmon in fresh Thai herbs was just delicious.

Ambience wise, it was a bit cavernous for the few people who were there at that time. I'd go again.

Like other reviewers I found the food to be a bit plain. Some of my favourite Indian dishes have been vegetarian, so thats no excuse.

Whatever you do, do not try the alcohol free wine, ghastly. Fortunately, we had popped into the bar next door for predinner drinks. I enjoyed the cinema though.

The food here was pretty good. The entree lamb souvlaki was a disappointment, tasty but very fatty. Also, the spinach(?) that came with the Goat was was salty and bitter, goat itself though was meaty and tender. The cutlets, spatchcock, and fish were all enjoyed by their diners.

Service was fine, I did take note from a previous review to watch out for the sparking water, they were generous with the tap water though. Also, service was not added to the bill. It was a bit $$$ but as expected for the location.

The food was mostly pretty good, although the serving sizes were variable. My Wife loved the Miang prawns, but there was only 4 prawn halves; compared to my chicken satay which had 4 generous juicy bits of chicken. For mains, the duck was yummy but very light on for pieces of duck, massaman beef was generous and tender, and choo chee prawns while tasty the sauce had started to separate. Service was polite and friendly, only miss was that a Tom Yum entree came out well after the other entrees. Overall, it was a nice meal and I'll be back.

Response from Management:
Dear Slyder

Thanks for being the first to review us for this year! I’m glad to hear your overall experience was pleasant. We always strive to provide quality dishes over quantity. However, if you ever feel the serving size is too small or not enough please let us know, we’d gladly top this up for you. Shame on the Tom Yum soup, it should’ve been served with the rest of your entrees. Nevertheless, I will pass on your comments onto the team for feedback and consideration.

Look forward to seeing you again soon!

Regards,

Rock Mortar

I've been here for lunch a few times and have really enjoyed it every time. The food feels fresh and lovely Thai flavours. Yum. I'm a bit surprised that the ratings are low.
