The breakfast stack here is great value at $10, eggs, spinach, bacon and haloumi cheese piled on a big potato mash pattie and surrounded in a light home made tomato sauce. This place serves great coffee and has a great vibe. It's packed all day long and there are extra tables out the back courtyard.

The dining room was smaller than I expected but had a lovely cosy feel to it. We were given a basket of warm crusty bread to start which was delicious and fresh. We had half a dozen oysters to start, we didn't like the vinaigrette that it came with and they also came on a bed of rock salt. The oysters were my only gripe for the night as I think fresh oysters should always arrive a bed of ice, as they were not as cool as I would have liked.
My steak was a very delicious and guilty indulgence, which came with a generous butter, cream and red wine sauce and a side of shoestring fries. My fiance ordered the roasted pork belly which he thoroughly enjoyed. Our side dish of french beans with pinenuts, olive oil and feta was divine. All up it was a lovely night out.

Shocking food. This is probably the worst of the worst fake Japanese restaurants in Melbourne. Disaster!

Wonderful old fashioned attentive but non-intrusive service. Rustic italian fare in an old world dining room. Lovely place for that special date. A word of warning, the baby goat, though beautifully cooked has a very strong smell, as is the way with goat I guess. But if you're not into strong tasting/smelling meats, best to avoid this dish!

This place has the best chicken rice in Melbourne and generous portions too unlike the grumpy lady off the Bourke St mall!

Ate here with 6 of my friends last night. Was quite disappointed with the food. We ordered 3 meats from the charcoal grill section, belly pork, bulgogi chicken and beef. The belly pork was quite tasteless. The beef and chicken were seasoned correctly but the beef was very gristly. We also ordered Korean noodles, seafood pancake and a very oily chilli squid dish. Portions were on the small side, overall a very mediocre experience.

We've been going to Izakaya for the past couple of years as we’ve always regarded it as one of the few authentic, decently priced Japanese restaurants in the city. We went again last Friday night and have noticed the standard has dropped considerably.
We ordered the combination sushi platter and the presentation and freshness were not up to scratch. Worse still the size of the nigiri sushi had shrunk. The okonomiyaki was also tiny and going by the taste and appearance, I have a sneaking suspicion it came out of a frozen packet. Our gyoza (mushy and tasteless) and miso (which was rather strange and came with bean sprouts) were both forgotten by our waitress and were served right at the end of the meal.
The only dish that was still excellent was the fried squid with mayonnaise and lemon. The meal was topped off with surly waitresses who sadly couldn't crack a smile all night. Sigh…so disappointing.

Came here on a whim as it is close to where we live and we've never tried a Chinese vegetarian. My partner and I normally love our meat so take my food rating of 6 with a grain of salt. Still, it was a pleasant and unusual experience for us eating at this restaurant. I was amazed the tamarind fish actually looked and tasted like fish (well for the first 5 pieces at least..). One gripe I had was they charged extra for the Chinese tea and rice. Rice I can kinda understand but charging for tea in a Chinese restaurant is outrageous!

What a great pub dinner we had last night. We ordered from the bar meals menu and ate at one of the tables in the bar section. The atmosphere was very cosy and friendly, perfect for a windy and cold Melbourne evening.
We were lucky and rocked up on a Monday where all bar meals were $15 so was great value. We ordered the fried calamari for a starter to share, which came out beautifully seasoned with thinly sliced spring onions and slivers of red chilli. I had the chicken ceasar salad with candied bacon which was fresh and lightly dressed. My partner had the fish and chips which came with lots of home made tartare sauce.
Overall a great night, bar staff were very casual and friendly.

Caffe Panette occupies a sunny corner position opposite the South Melbourne markets, great for people watching if you're facing the street. The have great scrambled eggs on sour dough. I was disappointed they didn't have a big breakfast option. Sides like bacon, mushroom, spinach, beans are $3 each which results in your big brekkie costing close to the $20 mark. Having said that, the sides were generously portioned. Coffee was decent.
