Thai-Namic is a real gem. Everything is super fresh and their sauces are fantastic, no sorry, I meant amazing. The staff are always friendly and greet you with a warm smile. Sometimes, the restaurant has quirky decorations, like last Halloween when it was decked out in the obligatory fake cob webs and pumpkins. It's a cosy and friendly little place that happens to have fantastic food.

Bistro Ortolan is a jealously guarded secret of it's admirers who have come to love and revere its myriad of great qualities. Each dish is thoughtful, balanced and perfectly portioned. Regardless of whether it's meat, seafood or vegetarian it is always and unfailingly sublime. Just when you don't think the food could be better, the next dish you have is more amazing than the last.

Apart from being knowledgeable, the wait staff and sommelier are charming and down to earth. The warmth with which you are received is sincere and pitch perfect; not too friendly so that it's overly familiar and not so formal that it seems too cold and stiff.

All if this occurs in a very small but efficient kitchen in this small but elegant and understated restaurant. My partner and I come here a few times a year to worship at its temple of culinary magic and are always rewarded with an amazing evening to remember. In our eyes, it's perfection because it is the antithesis of posh Sydney restaurants that are all too often loud, brash and quite frankly too cold in ambience. We are so lucky this quiet achiever is our local, we pray they never decide to move- we'd never recover from the loss!
