My sister had recently been here and mentioned that Laurie Oakes was eating here on the same night. I thought if it is good enough for the man whose name goes hand in hand with the city, then it's good enough for me.

Laurie isn't wrong about too many things, and this further emphasises his reputation. The food was great (as someone else mentions, go the mezze for two), however, as I don't get paid as much as Laurie does next time I eat out in Canberra it might be somewhere a little cheaper.

Book ahead, as you will struggle to get a table if you just turn up. The night that we were there, plenty of people were turned away as the place was packed.

This place has a well earn reputation for awesome steak. If you're after a salad, go elsewhere. If you're after a piece of meat that reminds you of something out of Asterix and Obelix then this is where you should go. Last visit was for a 1.2 kg Rib Eye, definitely something you normally come across on a menu. Try and book ahead as I've missed out before through lack of planning.

The food is ok, but at the price you are paying, you can rightly expect a little more quality. Same goes for the beer for that matter. As far as ambience goes, the best I've experienced is on Trivia nights, where it doesn't matter how many times you've heard it the team name 'I wish this microphone was a penis' still manages to get a laugh.

The laksa that I've had here has been brilliant, while a couple of the other meals have been less than average and left me wondering why did I bother. Don't worry about eating in, I think that the ambience rating is almost accurate and with brilliant views a couple of hundred metres up the street, I don't know why you would bother.

Always on the itinerary when passing through Freo. While not a seafood chowder fan myself, some colleagues would make this their choice if they were given only meal in town. Personally I don't think that you can go too far wrong with the good old fish and chips.

Have travelled around Australia a fair bit, and after using eatability as a guide for years, I have finally decided to give something back after eating here for breakfast two mornings in a row.

The first morning I had the three cheese omelete which I was told beforehand had that much cheese in it, it would block me up for the rest of the day. When mixed with what felt like 5 or so eggs, and the 'baked on premise' bread it delivered on the promise.

So good was the breakfast we decided to back up again the next day, and once again left very satisfied. Judging by some of the recognisable clientele I'm sure that they are quite happy with there privacy there, so apologies for exposing this local secret.
