Came here about a year ago and although I had heard some amazing things about this little pop up bar, I can't say I was overly impressed. Sure, the food was decent and very tasty (meatballs were amazing), but I may have had thoughts of grandeur going in and, unfortunately, left with a little more than a ‘well it was lovely but should have gone up the road for something a little more substantial’.
The wine list was extensive enough with plenty from Italy (which is always a nice touch). Great little intimate spot for a quick drink or two before a night out.

A group of 6 of us came here for our annual Christmas Dinner and, unfortunately, we all walked in with a slightly biased judgement. We had pre-booked but were told that we must be finished and out the door by 830pm at the latest. This left a sour taste in all our mouths. Why the rush? This is a restaurant and not some high turnover establishment that can only fit a max of 20 ppl. This restaurant is deceptively large with 2 levels including a mezzanine level.
Despite this feeling, we continued on and had a great night sharing food and sipping on some incredible wines, it also helped that the waiter returned to us and let us know that they do not require the table so we remained there until 1030pm or so. The table set up is quite rustic which made it feel like we were all sitting at some nonnas home with her melamine bowls and cups – HA loved it.
The food was good, not great, but was still good regardless and the value is well worth it. From memory, the antipasto was the highlight dish.
Overall, I think this restaurant is well worth a visit and I’m not surprised there are queues out the door for those wanting a piece of Jamie’s Italian.

As one of my genuinely favourite restaurants is literally upstairs (longrain), a group of us decided to try Shortgrain for something different.
What I love most about this place is the feel of it when you walk through the Huge doors on Hunt, or walk downstairs from Longrain. Its dark, theres a dull drone from all the voices in what is obviously a very popular and busy place, its sexy, its aromatic, conjures up all sorts of feeling (which is soo important, I think if you can engage all senses, job well done).
The high booths are comfortable albeit slightly small to fit 4 people plus bags. Lets discuss the service! Incredible. Highly knowledgeable and professional, service you would see at a fine dining institution and not a casual restaurant/bar.
The food in my own humble opinion was slightly over seasoned and over spiced, flavours were amazing, don’t get me wrong, but I felt they packed more of a punch than what I was expecting. I still thoroughly enjoyed it as did my friends.
Would I go back? Probably not, but its not because the food or the place was a let down, its more that I prefer Longrain over Shortgrain and if given the choice, I would stay upstairs.

I only wish the previous reviewer had ordered the mussels, they were simply divine. Before I get onto the food, I want to talk about the atmosphere and ambience.
Hands down this has been a great conversion from the old Favelas into a restaurant/bar indoor outdoor place currently taking over Sydney at the moment. Unfortunately, the place is only licensed to have a max. of 25 people at any time sitting outside in the most gorgeous little courtyard, this was my only negative. Nevertheless, we came here for a quick drink and bite to eat on a Tues night and surprisingly, this place was packed.
The staff are very helpful, professional and quite well mannered. So big ticks there for me. Now onto the food, ordered the mussels and was Highly impressed. The sauce had the perfect balance of sweet and tart, the mussels were plump and booked perfectly. Could not fault the food. My friend was raving about the pasta dish all the way home so if that’s anything to go by, the food this particular night was certainly of a high calibre.
Will certainly be back if I’m ever in the mood for mussels again.

I think I may have a slight obsession with beer gardens, and this rates highly in my list of Sydney's best! This may be the reason I keep returning to this pub. The food - not too bad, tacos are tasty and the Thursday $12 ribs were easily demolished however it isn't the food I come here for. A school night catch up with friends over jugs of drink sitting out in the courtyard - what a better way to spend the night. Some reviewers have mentioned the bar staff - have not experienced fault with any of them to date. I must agree with some though on how busy this place gets - get there early to grab a table.

First off, I want to say that Sydney needs more of these gorgeous terrace converted bars like this one, this place transported me back to Cookie/Rooftop Bar combo in Melbourne, long skinny flight of steps, this gorgeous mid level bar then an outdoor rooftop terrace. Unfortunately, the night we went, a function was taking place on the rooftop so we settled in at the bar on the middle floor.
The great: cocktails, cocktails, Cocktails, which leads me onto the next great, the bar staff. Attentive, polite and perfectionists. Aesthetically speaking, this place was superb, quirky, dark, moody, all the attributes for a great night out.
The bad: the food, unfortunately, let us down. We ordered Arancini, a pizza and chips. Half an hour into our order, the waiter told us they had run out of Arancini, half and hour in? So we ordered chicken wings instead. The food arrived 45 minutes after that, so you can imagine we were Starving, only to be presented with 2 cold dishes (pizza and chips) and 1 hot dish (chicken wings).
I wouldn't come here for the food, but the drinks are well worth a quick pop in before dinner somewhere.

All in all, not a bad little late night Korean BBQ restaurant. Have been here a couple of times now and both times the food has been incredible (although due to BBQ user fault, some bits came out quite burnt). The 2nd time I have been here it was a very last minute, walk by, lets go in at 1100 pm, ahh the beauty of finding something open at this time, oh and caters for smokers.

Although I have yet to step foot in this patisserie, I feel strongly enough to write a review on their cakes, in particular, their tiramisu cake.
Incredible. Amazing. Delicious. I don't know who came up with the idea of covering the cake with caramelised nuts, but My God it works well. I have had this cake twice now and everytime I see the Tiramisu Cake standing out from the white box, my eyes pop out, my heart starts to pound and I am ready for a slice.
I have had to speak to someone who has walked into this shop to give me their rate for ambience, service and value. This is simply a patisserie, so how ambient do you need the place to be?

Ahhh the great old war of the pizzas, which establishment in Sydney is best? Surely this ranks up in the top 3! Great pizzas, fresh ingredients, mmm the right amout of basil and incredible tomato! Came here for a girls night catch up (6 in total) and Rosso Pomodoro came highly recommended from an Italian native and it certainly stood up to the recommendation. Ohhhh I almost forgot to mention, if you're a Nutella lover (and who isn't really) this place is a must visit, Nutella pannacottta, nutella crepes. Thats all I'm saying.
The only negative I have to say about this restaurant is the noise level, now I'm not one to shy away from noise (especially coming from a mediterranean background myself so talking loudly is in our blood), however, at one stage, I thought we were at some underground club screaming across the table for others to hear.

If I can have a great time at a waterfront restaurant in winter, can you imagine what this restaurant is like in summer. The sound of chinking glasses in the outdoor bar area with those gorgeous wicker style seating and watching that sun set - oops let me just untangle the scarf I currently have on to stop the cold from ruining my daydream.
What a beautiful seafood restaurant, the attention to detail blows my mind. The dark wood contrasting the sleek and structured light fixtures (you cannot miss the chandelier and if you have been, you will know what I am talking about). Enough about the aesthetics (I could go on all day), the food is what you come here for.
As expected from a one chef hat restaurant, the portion sizes are fairly small, however, the flavours and the freshness of the food are certainly not compromised. The dessert tasting plate is worth it alone. Could not fault this restaurant. Now back to my daydream.
