Hmmmm.........

This place is average at absolute best. Scrambled service, scrambled eggs runny and bland, coffees Ok, but for a "coffee warehouse" you would expect a lot better.

Anyone could cook better breakfast at home, so save your dollars and make your bacon and eggs chez soi!

What a cute little place!

We found this place by chance on Saturday night, and were instantly charmed at how quaint the place looked. We decided to take our chances and walked in to give the place a go, and were informed we had to wait for 20 minutes for a sitting. We went for a walk and came back 20 minutes later, had to wait a further 10 minutes and were finally seated.

We opted for the octopus salad, fried rolls with noodles inside, I forgot what they were called but they were delish! And we also opted for the deluxe sushi and sashimi plate. I must say, not bad! The most impressive part was the price tag, this is probably one of the more affordable sushi bar places around, and while it was not the best I have had, what you get for is worth what you paid for. And while the sashimi was not the best cuts or the most beautifully presented, they were at least fresh, I think they save the best cuts of the nigiris as the nigiris were fantastic.

While the service was a little inconsistent, it was pleasant enough. This place is definitely a new go to for an affordable sushi fix.

It seems Eatability is not that famous with Melbournians as I am the first to review this place!

Recently my lovely fiancé and I went to Melbourne. After reading an article on renowned New York Chef David Chang on his visit to Melbourne and falling in love with Pho at this very place, we just had to check it out ourselves! I mean, David states how on his first visit he was so impressed he ate 2 bowls of Pho, then came back the next day and had more!

I am a Pho enthusiast and have eaten Pho in several countries, including Vietnam and America, where David hails from. He goes on to say that this Pho is a lot better than any he has back at home in the States. So we walked down (from inner Melbourne CBD, quite the walk!) and found ourselves in Victoria Street, Richmond. It reminded me of Cabramatta as it was full of Asian restaurants, shops and butcheries with so many Pho options! When we finally arrived, the place was busy but not packed out like some of the places we passed. It was also quite modern and neat. We had friendly wait staff greet and serve us.

Ok, the verdict? Yummy! We had combination Pho, which in Sydney usually translates to “Beef” Combination Pho, but here it included beef and other items like chicken, liver and a small egg. The Pho was delicious, great tasty broth and the rice noodles had good bite to it. And the large bowl is huge! My partner had the large bowl; I luckily opted for medium size as it was a lot of food.

Overall was glad we made the trek out to try it out, very delicious bowl of Pho indeed.

My lovely partner and I recently stayed at Melbourne, and one day while scouting the Crown Casino repertoire of dining establishments, we decided on an impromptu luncheon at Nobu. The thing is, we have long since known about Nobu and was even going to dine at one of their American branches whilst in the States last year, so it is funny that we stumbled across their Melbourne branch as a random happenstance.

The day we decided to have lunch at Nobu was in fact Easter Sunday, so as we were seated were then advised that only the dinner menu was available. This would have suited my fancy more so if this was advertised before we took our seats, as truthfully this may have changed our minds. But, that’s probably the smarts of it all, credit to Nobu for hooking us in!

We ordered their signature yellowtail sashimi with jalepeno, which I must say was utterly divine. We also ordered the sashimi tacos, squid pasta (that had no pasta?) and the prawn and lobster dish, which were all Ok at most. But the stand out was their “special” of the day, a cold pasta dressed in a light oil sauce with snow crab. This special is not on the menu, but that dish was definitely my favourite Nobu dish.

The prices are quite high for what you get. I understand it is in a sought after location and is a “Nobu” branch. Aside from the yellowtail sashimi and the special crab pasta, the food was Ok, dressed up and overpriced. Also, the actual restaurant looked a little run down and dated. The service was also all over the place, our main waiter was good, but were 3 times 2 different waiters brought us someone else’s food, and one of our dishes also went to another table before getting to ours. Overall, Nobu is nothing impressive.

My lovely partner and I stayed in Melbourne recently and heard Shoya was a good quality Japanese restaurant, so we decided to give it a go. We opted for the traditional Japanese seating style room which was quite nice and private. We decided to spoil ourselves and chose the $180pp Omakase degustation. ($180 did seem expensive considering the portions. I understand it is fine dining, but the portions did seem quite "petite" opposed to many comparable fine dining establishments we have dined at).

We had a lovely waiter who served us for most of the evening. He was very informative and warm, and very efficient in effortlessly taking off his slippers to serve our food and drinks.

All the dishes was wonderfully presented, some in very innovative ways! The food was delicate, beautiful and clean, the way good Japanese fare should be. Even though I have had sashimi uncountable amount of times (even in Japan), Shoya’s sashimi (that was served in a fantastic ice bowl) was one of the freshest, best cuts of sashimi I have ever had in a restaurant, and matched with the “real” wasabi that was grated from the wasabi root in front of us. Sublime!

Overall we were happy with our overall dining experience at Shoya and do recommend it.

Is this place "trendy" and "Eurasian"?... Sure. Is the food decent, albeit nothing to write home about... "Yes". Did I have a good time here?... "Yes!"

My lovely partner and I stayed in Melbourne recently and heard about "Chin Chin". The first night we tried to get a table, they told us it would be an hour and 15 minute wait, so we decided to come earlier the next night and got a table straight away. Well, when I say table I mean stools at the food preparation section. (Which was a great place to sit to watch all the food preparing action!).

We had a very disarming and friendly waiter who made us feel comfortable and at ease. We saw the "feed me" option, and decided to go for that... Man this place fed us! Sooo much food! All the food yes nice and satisfying, I really loved their caramelised sticky pork dish that was yummy. I also enjoyed their kingfish sashimi, the son in law eggs and their take on peking duck pancakes.

Overall the food was good, the vibe fun, and the service warm and friendly. A must if in Melbourne!

I Love my Japanese food. I guess for a small Japanese restaurant tucked away in Ashfield this place is Ok, but compared to many other Japanese fair in town and for authentic/worthy Japanese food in general, this place is average at best.

I had the mini pork ramen set with mixed sashimi and sushi. The ramen was Ok, a little bland. The sushi and sashimi was pretty poor, with some of the off cuts used for the sashimi.

Service was a little scattered albeit pleasant enough. I am not from the area so I personally would not go back, but if you are a local, this place is Ok if you need a ramen fix.

I may be bias in making my review as we were fortunate enough to meet and talk to the lovely Luke Nguyen. I will get to him later.

We had an early sitting for 6.00pm last Saturday night. Now, reading some of the below reviews about negative service, it may sound like people are referring to the front of house lady? As the lady who was greeting everyone when we got there was a little out there, wearing a very revealing singlet where you could see all of her bra. She was out there, and a bit boisterous but she was friendly enough to us anyway, in an untamed sort of fashion.

Now our main waiter was lovely. (He has a slight American accent?) He was very informative and personable, explaining all the dishes very thoroughly. He got some of our dishes mixed up, but when someone is that attentive and delightful, you can excuse his mistakes.

The food was nice. Not very authentic Vietnamese which was a let down, a lot of the food was more Chinese based cuisine like the Blue Swimmer Crab in XO sauce. Also, my partner and I were the only Asians in the joint! Perhaps as Asians can get authentic Vietnamese food in other locations such as Cabramatta at a lot cheaper prices. But as a stand alone venue, the food was well presented, fresh and nice. I did enjoy our entrees which was the wagyu beef in betel leaves and the roast duck salad.

The ambiance is ok, kitchy and cute. The amenities were quite horrible though, very dirty and questionable.

Now to the highlight of the evening: We were lucky enough to visit when Luke was there. He came out very early on and went straight to our table and shook our hands and introduced himself. We chatted for awhile about his show and what he has been up to. He spent the rest of the night chatting to guests and even serving food. When we were leaving he was happy to oblige for us to take a photo with him. He was just so charming and a great host!

I must say the service from Luke and our waiter made the evening that little bit more special then perhaps it would have been.

I personally like Churrasco, Sydney. The space is inviting and modern looking. I have been a couple of times and find that the wait staff is component and some are very friendly. Some do seem to be on auto pilot, but no-one has been rude like some others have experienced. Maybe I have just been lucky?

Yes, the meat is salty, some very much so! But the meat is cooked well and the variety is decent. If they held back on the salt I would go here more often! They do great cocktails, and if ever you can, try to save room for dessert, the Chocolate Pudding is absolute bliss!

A good place to go with a large group and a large appetite!
