We've been here several times and lately have been a little disappointed with the food. The ingredients didn't match well together (for e.g. I had linguini with olives and prawns and the olives were way too strong), and there was very little consistency in terms of serving size. A little disappointed but I hope they are reading the reviews closely and re structure their food design.

We have gone back several times and are now disappointed with the service. The service was inconsistent and it took forever for the dishes to come out. In fact, we waited at least 35 minutes following the receipt of the first dish. The food is great, but need a bit of an improvement in terms of oiliness.
This place is a gem! We love chilli so to this was ideal for us. We had the smoked pork with chilli and it was beautiful, harbour prawns with chives which was great and garlicky, wasn't spicy and also we had the eggplant which was quite different to the usual variety you get at chinese restaurants. Highly recommended (and only) for people with a strong liking towards chilli!

The food was fine but not wow. We were disappointed with the quality of the food, had the Sardinian degustation, which was apparently the chef's specialty but it was thoroughly disappointing. The entree was the best, clam and mussel soup but everything else, the involtino, the ravioli and the pork really was disappointing. The other highlight was the dessert, it melted in our mouths. What was terribly disappointing was the mains, it really was nothing special!

Would not recommend this restaurant. Ordered crispy chicken which came out grilled, had homok curry which was tasteless, and also had jungle curry which was meant to be extremely hot but honestly, we could not taste any of the spice!

Really great and cheap thai food and ben is always awesome and friendly. They try their best but this really isn't the best place to dine in. Small area, best to probably do a takeaway. Try the pad kee mao, lard naa, omelette with rice, and their fried chicken wings. Oh and the heavenly crab too!

This is an affordable eatery for a north shore restaurant. We ordered beef rendang but, unfortunately, it came out a little too wet (it was the dry style that we ordered). We also ordered grilled pork with plum sauce which was great. We weren't given any complimentary fruit so that was a disappointment. Ordered mee goreng as well and that turned out really good, except I was quite surprised that there was pork mince in it! Having been originally a dish that was served by Malaysian Indian Muslims (mamak) I didn't think this was very authentic.

I am quite surprised with the comments made here. My partner and I, along with my sister visited Malaya House last night and found the food most appalling. The service was great, friendly staff that made sure we were well looked after but the food was awful.
Beef rendang tasted extremely mild and we thought it might be a little off and the roti we ordered were soggy unfortunately. Ordered Chow Hor Fun but it wasn't the type we were hoping for, it was dry and had 'char siew' pork in it, which surprised me. We also ordered assam chicken and it was the best dish out of all three, although again, I wouldn't step into the restaurant again.
I find the title of the restaurant misleading, they don't serve only Malaysian food, in fact they served lots of asian varieties and I think this is the reason why the food is so variable.

After reading all these reviews we thought we might try this restaurant. This is our first ever Japanese degustation so we were very interested. Our first entree was miso soup and that was alright - didn't think it was anything special. The second entree was the main drawcard - the beef was amazing, the eel was pretty average.
We got the steak and fish as our mains and weren't overly impressed with them.
Dessert was interesting, it was a sake crumb that tasted really good and creamy but the cheesecake was terribly disappointing. It just tasted like something someone bought from Coles. It was cheap for a degustation meal but honestly, you cannot possibly compare this to Tetsuyas.
We were also less than impressed with the noise level - it wasn't a noisy crowd but we could still hear many of the conversations going on in the restaurant. I'd recommend this but only say once every few months.
