Reviews indicate this place can be a bit inconsistent, but we had a great experience at dinner early on a Tuesday night. For a modern Australian restaurant, the serving sizes were especially impressive. We had mains with a side of shoestring fries, which was more than enough for two hungry people.
The service was friendly, the food was fast and there were a few interesting alcohol-free drink options in addition to the wine list. Plenty of vegetarian and gluten-free dishes to choose from, and the pastry cabinet certainly looks enticing (although we couldn't have eaten any more than we did). I liked the music too, and it was nice and warm on a cold evening.

The stand-outs here were the friendly service and inventive menu. Given the surliness of the staff at most Canberra restaurants and cafes, Digress was a breath of fresh air. The food was fabulous too, and there were plenty of vegetarian options on the menu. The decor is also interesting and the ambience comfortable and stylish. The drinks menu features cocktails and mocktails, which is also a plus for someone who doesn't drink alcohol. We'll be back!

The only great thing about this place was the pizza - really thin crust and plenty of topping. The service was pretty bad - we didn't get everything we ordered and the food took much longer than it should have (why can't waiters just write things down?). The special (zarzuela) featured some great seafood, but was smothered in bland (and probably canned) crushed tomatoes. The side salad an awful concoction of unpleasant vegetables coated with a greasy, flavour-free dressing. Very overpriced for such low-quality fare.

A rare Chinese restaurant offering several kinds of delicious vegetarian dumplings. The Dumpling House serves hot, fresh food in generous quantities at reasonable prices. The service isn't brilliant, but the food more than makes up for it. The pan-fried leek dumplings and salt-and-pepper tofu are delicious vegetarian options.
Beware of MSG though - an earlier review states there's none, but we've been told differently.

Au Lac is a wonderful restaurant - great value, awesome food and speedy service. The menu features a wide range of vegan Vietnamese foods, including soups, noodles, curries and fried dishes. Some feature mock meat, but there are quite a few vegetable or tofu dishes to choose from if that's not your cup of tea. The laksa, fish with ginger and (entree-size) wonton soup are all excellent - although the full-size wonton noodle soup is a bit bland. The banquets aren't bad for groups either.
