A popular local bistro with French staff, serving reasonable French food which varies from very good to rather average, depending upon the dish. Some of the dishes, such as the charcuterie, are expensive for the relatively modest portions and average quality of the food. The service is friendly, and they have BYO some evenings.
Overall it's worth a visit if you live in the area, but would not go out of our way to eat there.

Very ordinary Italian food, in ordinary surroundings. Also overpriced for what you get. The service was friendly and efficient and commendable, but nothing else was worth recommending.

The food and service are very good. The restaurant is situated on the first floor and open to the foyer in the atrium of the hotel, and can be a little noisy. The only negative is the wine list, which is very good and even allowing for it being in a 5 star hotel, 200% -300% markup on many of the wines is excessive. Worth a visit.

Been here twice now, the first time the fish was OK but the tempura prawns tasted off and were inedible. This was pointed out to the staff, who just said sorry, but otherwise did not seem overly concerned.
Given the previous positive reviews, thought to try it again in case it was just a hiccup in the kitchen. The second visit saw us having traditional fish and chips. The fish was cooked in a layer of paprika or some similar spice like it was coated with something from a Masterfoods spice jar, which obliterated the flavour of the fish.
Despite the friendly staff, having been disappointed on 2 occasions now, would not return.

The quality of the food here appears to be varied, with some of our group really enjoying their meals and others having some small issues. At $16 for an entree and $26 for a main in basically a shop/cafe, the portions are relatively small and hence the value is less than average with dishes being overpriced for what you are getting.
Ordered a medium rare steak as a main course and received an overcooked (well done)small steak. The sauces are good and the service was very friendly and efficient. It may be better for breakfasts and lunches than for dinners. But based on our dinner experience, am in no rush to return.

Good food and pleasant efficient service, with a varied menu. The only negative is that the entrees are on the small side, but the food is tasty and this restaurant is worth a visit. We will go back.

Since moving from their established location at the Spit to a few doors up at the old Shores restaurant in the Middle Harbour Yacht Club, this restaurant has improved even further. The food is good, and they still allow BYO.
Service is generally good, and the harbourside location makes this a great place to watch the passing activity on the water. Worth a visit.
Response from Management:
Thank you for your feedback.
We apologise for you experience at Cala luna and just want to let you know of some changes that we have made and are making over the next 6 months. We are improving our decor and ambiance and have made some dishes on our menu a lighter to accomodate for these requests of our patrons. We would like to invite you back and lets give us your feeback again to see if we have improved.
Thanks again for your feedback

The old Cala Luna restaurant, the same owners have modified this place to be a more casual eatery. The food is reasonable, and service we found to be friendly.

Pretty location, this cafe used to have reasonably good food, but over the years the place has developed rapidly with shops, a function centre, tasting rooms, and has become more expensive whilst the quality has dropped, as sadly appears to be the case with some Hunter Valley winery establishments.
Good place to stop and to sit back in the courtyard and enjoy a tea/coffee, but not for lunch.
