Up until a few months ago this was our favourite local and our favourable Pub in Sydney! The food and music has always been great.
However a few months ago they decided to do some "renovations"…great, except that they stoped halfway and now think that a concrete floor and 1960’s lino with patches of carpet and uncomfortable second hand furniture is all they need to do.
The furniture they had before was 10 times better than what they have now. And the carpet they had before is 100 times better than a bare concrete floor! Its seriously the worst thing I have ever seen
Not sure what has happened to the owners/managers… but they need to hire an interior designer ASAP. The pub has lost its cozy feel and we’ll have to find somewhere else to go on cold winter nights - probably the Kurrajong, which is much cosier these days after an actual renovation.

A fantastic restaurant for a romantic/special dinner. Food is delicious and filling. The fact that its BYO too is brilliant.

This place is great for a pre movie or theatre dinner!
I'm surprised there are not more reviews. This is very good Japanese food in a no nonsense restaurant that is even BYO ($3 per person, not bad considering most places in the Circular Quay charge $50 for a bottle of Oyster Bay).
I highly recommend the miso soup! (one of the best I've ever had), The fried gyoza dumplings and the Katsu mild curry. My husband loved his sushi and sahimi beno box. All up we paid $56 for a filling meal for two with our own wine.
We'll be back. If they wanted to improve the restaurant, they might change the 1970's carpet or have white tablecloths for added elegance.

A good big feed for about $20. Had a lovely time, very authentic decor and loved the mixed chargilled meat plate and the dips!

Between two we ordered 1) duck red curry (about $22) - wonderful, flagrant flavours. Would have liked to have more of it but it was a bit too spicy for me.
2) Chicken Satay ($15.90) - was very good (not spciy at all a plus), gorgeous flavours again though the stir fried capsicum with it was undercooked. Rice is $2.90 per person. All in all had a lovely Thai meal. Marinades were nice and rich so it felt like authentic Thai rather than 'westernised Thai'. Good decor etc. Would have liked it more if it were cheaper considering it's not located at the King St wharf end of town. We decided to stop in after a movie here rather than go to Newtown for cheaper Thai where we would have paid $15 each (including rice).
However, if price is not an big concern, I think you should try this place out. Very good place to have a conversation. Also, if you can, try the black sesame ice cream, it's very yummy and different.
