Very arrogant staff. Been there many times, but recently was the last time I will set foot into the cafe.
Food is good but not worth the attitude that you get. You don't feel like a valued customer at all. Booked a table for 4 people 1 week in advance and got seated on a table for 2 with one of my friends being 38 weeks pregnant and obviously ready to pop. Asked the waiter if he could move us to another table for 4 which was empty and he said "No" abruptly. Other people kept bumping into us all evening and all 4 plates could not fit onto the table at once.
Response from Management:
We appreciate your feedback and please to hear you liked our food. I can assure you all our bookings get first preferences on tables, if we are fully booked which is the case most of the times, our valued walk in customers have the choice to seat on what is available. Our floor staff is very polite and obliging to every reasonable and human possible request. Thank you again for your patronage and hoping to see you again I will do my best to help remedy your experience.

I was very pleasantly surprised about this place. Generally, I don't rate the good on Burwood Rd very highly and even though this is very casual and looks more like a take away joint, the food is cooked as you order it, so you can amend things and it tastes so good and is very reasonably priced. If you want to avoid bad food in Burwood and you don't mind the decor of a place, then this is a must.

What a great discovery. You'd never know it's there unless you specifically went looking for it. The waiter was professional but very friendly and it was just so fun to walk around the cheese room, wine room and check out all the groceries on offer. Apart from all that though, the food was tasty and good value. My husband had the Antipasto for entree and the cheese and cured meats on that were amazing. I loved my mushroom risotto.
But the icing on the cake was the Nutella pizza. I've had nutella pizzas and calzones all over Sydney (including at the famous rosso pomodoro) but this one is soooo good. You can watch the chef making it on the TV screens put up in the restaurant. He started with the base, placed nutella on top after cooking it and then cut it into pieces and placed it on the plate. Then came the art work. He started placing strawberries on top, then banana and then grapes.
I was thinking to myself that I didn't order a fruit salad here and thought there's too much topping/fruit. Then he drizzled some mascarpone sauce and crushed glazed pistachio. It was amazingly delicious and the grapes made the pizza (would you believe). We were so impressed that we left more than a 10% tip. Next time, I'll be back with at least 6 people and order the Porchetta 24 hours in advance (deboned pork stuffed with spices on a spit). Will have to give that one a go.

Good dessert. Main meal of steak (over $40) came out with just steak and sauce. Had to order vegies and potato on the side. Slightly pretentious but excellent and very attentive service. Personally, don't think it's worth the price tag.

Lately, I've had enough of going to high end restaurants with high end prices, only to find the food below par. This is different though. I love sitting on the balcony with a blanket, looking at the view and eating absolutely delicious food. It is pricey but well worth it for a special occasion. Staff are very attentive, food is diverse and yummy. Entrees, mains and desserts were all excellent!

I've heard some fabulous things about this place and always see it packed when I drive by. Decided to go there on sat night and got there just before 6 pm so we got a place straight away. Within 15 minutes, there wasn't a spare seat in the house. I shared the scallops for entree which were ok and had the garlic prawns with wedges for main. Soooo oily and garlic was very overpowering (and I love my garlic).
Service was unfriendly also and not very efficient. I was so disappointed with my meal as I always pick "safe" dishes and they may not be outstanding but are always edible. This wasn't edible unfortunately. My husbands fish with Pine nuts and grapes was not too bad though.

Nice atmosphere and it's got heaters so it's warm even in winter, but the food is way too expensive for what it is. I don't mind paying good money for Thai (eg, Longrain) but when it's just ordinary, good Thai and fair enough that the portions are big, I don't see the point of paying more than $15 for a main. In this case, we got the Tom Yum soup with prawns and it cost $32 not including the rice! There are many other nice and reasonably priced Thai restaurants in Newtown.

I can't believe such a great restaurant exists in Sydney. It reminds me of some of those funky Italian restaurants in Melbourne with its warm but trendy decor. The quality of service and food is excellent and I'm generally a harsh but fair marker. The italian flavours are unique, portions are slightly small and it's tucked away in a great location and you can buy the olives and the oil. I just hope that it remains such great food and service.

I've been here several times, but the last time I went there, we had a table for 5 booked and they put us on a squashy table for 4 with an extra chair. When I mentioned this to the waitress and tried to explain that there are 2 big men sitting here, she said that we were lucky as the table is usually for 6 people.
We had a 6:30pm booking and we had to be out of there by 8:30pm but they rushed us so much and brought all the food out very quickly that we left by 7:45pm (after they just handed us the bill without asking), feeling overly full and rushed with the table next to us still empty that would have accommodated us more comfortably.

The salt and pepper soft shell crab is a must. Very good food for sharing with many people and the desserts are different yet yummy (such as pineapple and coconut creme brulee). Get there early as they don't take bookings and it can get a little noisy.
