We visited Brewhouse on a busy Saturday afternoon for our friends birthdays. We did not book a table as we werent sure if we were eating or not. The venue itself is very nicely done, its a little loud, but what can you expect in such a buzzing location & don't forget it is both a bar & restaurant. The winner here is that it is well spaced, so although busy you do not feel cramped in.

The drinks were a little pricier than other locations on this strip. But they were very well made and the waitstaff were very good in remembering our orders which is pretty commendable for a place of this size. We did not try any of the beers brewed on site but will be back to sample.

We decided to eat there and were told it was fully booked. If we wanted to eat, we could wait until 6pm for the bar menu to begin but we wouldnt get a table in the restaurant until 10pm and it was a set menu for the night. After speaking with a fantastic host (whos name I dont remember - very friendly smiley guy of islander appearance) he went out of his way to accommodate us. We were given a table provided we were out before 7:30 & could order off the a la carte menu. Which was exactly what we wanted.

Not only did he go out of his way to accomodate us for dinner, he got us another table outside when we were finished, AND brought us complimentary drinks and shots!! Maybe it was the Christmas spirit! It just goes to show there are good people out there & its not all about getting you in and pushing you out. Service gets a 10/10.

Ok, onto the food. Not a single complaint from our table. And we are a picky bunch so this says a lot. We had steaks, kangaroo, prawns, sides & a mix of entrees. A lot of places along King St Wharf (like Darling Harbour) are overpriced & rubbish, mainly catered for the tourists who will just accept it. So we weren't sure what to expect for a bar/restaurant on this strip as past experiences have proved costly & unsatisfying.

A somewhat expensive menu with good choice of options had us excited & hoping Brewhouse would break the mould. And did it ever! Our steaks were cooked precisely to order, perfection!! And the other meals were all very well presented & tasty. We did not stay for dessert, but I can't wait to go back to try it! Of the places along King St Wharf, Brewhouse ticks all the boxes. Its got to be your first choice.

I frequent Chophouse and they are yet to let me down. Having visited a number of times and always blown away by the service and food I even booked the private room for my Mother's 60th. Again, blown away.

The food is mouthwateringly good. The meat always cooked to perfection and the sides are very generously portioned to share. A very extensive wine list and desserts generally to die for.

The decor is really cool and completely different to anything in Sydney which is what makes the experience memorable. The tables and chairs are very comfortable, as is the bar if you have to wait. It can get rather noisy in there when things pick up, but its no bother. On Saturday nights they have live music which is a nice touch.

Service - this is a place that prides itself on service. I am wowed with every visit. All staff are so switched on. They are friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and happy to be there. Nothing is too much for them and they will go out of their way to make your night an enjoyable one. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff and to me, you're only as good as your staff because regardless of how good the food is, if you get terrible service you probably won't go back. Chophouse have people returning always!

Menu can be viewed as somewhat expensive but I say compare it to similar style steakhouses in the city and its much the same. The difference being that you will get a quality meal for the price you pay here and know you will leave content and wanting to return.

Visit Chophouse for a treat. You won't regret it.

Tip: try the double double lamb chops.

Love love love this place! We tried it for the first time last weekend and I can safely say it will become a regular on our restaurants list. I actually can't wait to go back.

With so many Thai restaurants in Newtown (there are 3 in a row in one spot and 2 of the same situated within 100m of each other?) let this be the guiding light to help decide which one to choose.

The food, divine! I could eat the Miang Goong all day long. They are awesome. All dishes were as good as being in Thailand without the 9 hour flight. So tasty and are very generously portioned, this is definitely a place to get several dishes and share. I've rated the food a 9 instead of 10 purely because I am yet to try everything on the menu, when I do I am sure it will change to a 10.

Ambience, although it looks small it is very comfortable. A little squishy when you first walk in, but nobody seemed bothered when we had to squeeze by so no big deal. It is clean, fresh and modern with Thai influences and if you have a larger group there is a big area at the back to accommodate.

Service, top notch, I could not fault it. We were greeted immediately, they knew who we were, we were seated within a few minutes and our waiter/s were kind, well mannered and attentive without being intrusive. Service with a smile, what more could you ask for.

Value, I can't rave about this enough. We ordered 4 entrees, 3 mains + rice and drinks between 3 of us and the bill came to $98. Fantastic value for such a great meal. Well worth it. I will definitely go back to Atom Thai and will recommend it to everyone.

Beautiful food, beautiful service and a beautiful price!

Morning, Critique-girl

It is very heart-warming to read your comprehensive review on our restaurant, and I am sure all my colleagues will feel the same when I pass on a printed version for them to read.

As you mentioned there are so many Thai restaurants on King Street, we need to be at our best at all times to win over customers and even more important to keep them coming back. You have given us all very high scores and thank you for the confidence and raving review, we are humbled. We know there is always area for improvement for perfection, and we will do our best to do that.

We also thank customers who have brought to our attention those aspects that can be further improved, as not us alone, but our patrons/friends are helping us to get better.

I have recent read a SMH article on some restaurant charging surcharge for diners bringing cake, that aside, what I agree wholeheartedly is the following quote by Veteran restaurateur Jennice Kersh, who ran Edna's Table for 25 years, says many Sydney restaurants have lost sight of their purpose.

''Those were the days when restaurants served vegetables automatically with the main course and bread came with the compliments of the house. It is hard to make money in hospitality but the word is 'hospitality' and that means friendliness, warmth and that sense of being welcome.''

Thank you again and look forward to seeing you again soon.

Cheers
Atom

We visited El Bulli @ the spot again last night (Saturday) and were very happy.
Whilst it is difficult to get your head around the 'no bookings for parties smaller than 4' idea, you can usually wing it and get a table as a walk in. And if you don't mind a small wait, it will be worth it.

The food - is lovely. I love the patatas bravas. The squid is perfectly cooked and all of the prawn dishes are very yummy and well portioned. The sangria is also something to look forward to, very flavorsome and enjoyable with different flavors to choose from.

The Ambience - Decor is beautiful, very nice feel to it, but beautiful as it may be the restaurant is very cramped and can get very loud when full! My advice is to book one of the larger tables near the window or outside. If you come as a smaller party, expect to be very close to your neighbours. Not the most enjoyable experience but the food makes up for it.

Service - service is always good, staff are not only well mannered and friendly but also attentive with both drinks and clearing of the table. Food also comes out quite fast and each dish announced so you know what is what. (something you would think is standard but in so many places is not).

Value - between the 2 of us we shared a potato, prawn, squid, mushroom, chorizo and bread tapas + 2 alcoholic beverages and the bill was just under $100. Although the prices look high on the menu the portions are large and we were full at the end of the meal. Very good value for money.

Overall tips - This is a must try restuarant. Go with a group of 4 or more and book so you have not only a scrumptious meal but also a comfortable one.

I must say it has been over 6 months since we visited, but reading the recent reviews I see nothing has changed. I'll keep it short and sweet.

As a drinking venue and if you like your beers then this place is great. A fun place to go for a couple (or more) drinks with friends and maybe some food on the side.

The food itself was quite good. Have tried the mussels, calamari, steak, prawns and all are nice. The half price mussels are good value and can recommend.

Unfortunately, service is disgusting. It is almost like you're an inconvenience to them which I always struggle with at a restaurant because without the customers the waitstaff wouldn't have a job.

On our second visit our waitress got all of our orders wrong, could not remember who ordered what when our plates came out And told one of our friends that he ordered something he did not. Suffice to say, we did not leave a tip!

Drink - Great, Food - Nice. Service - ignore the rude waitstaff and you will be fine.

Decided to visit Assiette after reading the great reviews on eatability. With an average of 8.1 of 227 reviews we thought we were in for something special.

To be perfectly honest - I don't know what the fuss is about. Service was unwelcoming. Food was average at best & value. Well for the price paid I had higher expectations.

To start with the simplest of things, they had a completely different menu to what is shown on their website. In this era technology is everything so they have let themselves down in this aspect.

Very excited for the food on the website, not so keen for what we were presented with on the night. I agree with several other reviews that the wait staff seem distant and unhappy.

With the exception of one very cheery girl, it felt like a very robotic experience and I was quite taken back with the rudeness of our male waiter. He was very short and blunt and looked like it was all too much effort.

It is also very loud and cramped. Once the place fills up and the kitchen gets going (it is an open style layout) the nice ambiance is lost.

To the food. I can again agree with others, nothing bad as such - but nothing wow either. Totally failed to impress my whole family. We were so miffed by the entree and main that we decided to ditch the dessert.

Overall would not go back to Assiette. It failed on all levels for us. What a shame.
