Frattini used to be a favourite, but a recent lunch visit with clients was very very disappointing. The service was appalling, catering to a very large party and many tables of regulars and simply ignoring everyone else. Sure they were busy, but half the tables were fawned over, the others simply ignored. The noise was loud and the food was very average, the whole snapper looked fantastic, my spag marinara was really bad. I won't be back.

Coogee Cafe, Coogee

This place is a treasure. A new liquor licence and a different team operating at night makes for a winner. Interesting range of beers and wines, all by the glass, can be sampled with or without food.

Food is designed to be shared, all served on wooden platters and is fantastic. Think generous tapas-style mod Oz dining. Only criticisms, the noise level was ear piercing (but that could have been our party), the loo is basic and could do without mops and cleaning tools and they need a new playlist on the iPod. Highly recommend (at night) for a drink and a graze.

Nice looking restaurant, but let down by average food and service. The menu reads well and sounds authentic, but servings are deceptive - lots of adornments but underneath fairly small and overall there seems to be a dumbing down in the flavour department.

The area has fantastic Thai and Indonesian fare, but not to be found at this restaurant. Having said that, it was full on a school night, but with all westerners. Unfortunately, the service was indifferent. There are better in the area.

Renato's Italian Restaurant, Coogee

Okay for coffee or lunch but avoid Saturday nights at all costs. Upstairs is a nightmare, waiting staff are hopeless and problems (wrong orders, poor quality food) handled indifferently by management. Overall a cheap and cheerful with average food.
