Love it! Having just moved to Avalon from Bondi we're excited to find a range of excellent restaurants in the area. Starfish was a fantastic find. We had dinner on Friday night. The restaurant was fairly full and it had a nice atmosphere, but could do with some music.
I had a special of kingfish sashimi - it was very fresh, not tough as you would expect from raw kingfish. Then I had the pork belly. I can't seem to go past pork belly on a menu - and this time I had a good reason. The night before we went to Brass Razoo and I had pork belly - it had no crackling! Very disappointed, so I had the pork belly at Starfish to compare - and it won. Delicious crackling, very tender meat lovely sauce.
After all of this I didn't really have room for dessert, but my belly won and I ended up with sticky date pudding. Superb.

Upstairs is my fav. The comfy couches and soft lighting sets the mood for gossip and chat. Love the food upstairs, hate the food downstairs.

All I can say is you have to go there, and don't be tight with your money - expect to pay around $600 for 2. Then just sit back and enjoy yourself in a little time vacuum.

I have to agree with most of the others here, the food is not that good. It's such a super spot, and full of promises, but there's not much effort in what came out of the kitchen. My steak was drowned in olive oil and my dining partners chicken dish was made with cheapo chicken pieces that had tiny unexpected bones in it (and yes, she did choke on them!). I won't be going back until they acknowledge their faults and improve.

Mmm, I had a really enjoyable night here, but we went just after they were crowned with two hats and the food just seems a long way from three hats. I've eaten at three hat restaurants, so I was very much looking forward to eating at a local two hat. The food was good, actually really tasty with fresh ingredients, but it was not inspiring and didn't quite make me go wow. It's very honest food and the service and atmosphere do make it a very enjoyable occasion, but nothing that a really good home cook couldn't do.

Don't get the ribs takeaway - just not the same. If you want the best ribs in Sydney you have to eat in the restaurant. And they are the best ribs in Sydney, don't bother trying anything else, oh, except for the garlic prawns.

I'm really surprised by some of these comments. I went here for a tapas dinner and it was fantastic. Some of the dishes were amazing and very unique, unlike any taste sensations I've had before. Service was a bit slow but really you don't want to be rushed on a Sat night do you?
