We went for breakfast there and absolutely loved it! I ordered the eggs benedict and was absolutely delighted, the portion was perfect, eggs poached to perfection, delicious hollandaise, yummy fresh bread and a nice little salad to balance the dish drizzled with their beautiful olive oil and pesto. The presentation was cute, and it was obvious that care had been taken in making such a simple breakfast meal. I was not hungry again until the evening!
The coffee was perfect, and not stupidly expensive. Prices overall were, perhaps, a little higher than average, but it was worth it! Our waitress was so attentive and enthusiastic, definitely coming back.

I was so disappointed. I brought my family and friends here for my birthday, thinking that this is one occasion that I can justify having a lovely breakfast out at what I expected to be an upmarket restaurant. The prices were expensive, but one would expect that in return the food would be amazing and generous, and that the service would be impeccable- not the case for Danks St Depot.
We were shocked when the food arrived at how tiny the portions are: e.g. over $21 for one slice of toast, a small serving of scrambled eggs and two mushrooms. Not only that but the toast was cold and stale! Rock solid and chewy! All the other dishes were also tiny. I felt completely stupid and ripped off, and embarrassed for bringing my family there.
Secondly, the staff were completely rude and aloof - one waitress in particular was just so abrupt and unpleasant. This is unacceptable, especially considering the prices and the expectations people have of Danks St Depot. We consistently received service with a begrudging scowl!
As it was my birthday, we brought a little cake: no more than 10 centimetres across. Admittedly that is a little unorthodox at a breakfast place, but I just assumed it wouldn't be a problem considering that the eight of us just paid $180 for breakfast, and it was such a tiny cake. The waitress, however, just looked irritated and bluntly said it would be $2.50 per head to serve the cake, and this was followed by shocked silence from our table.
We all left disappointed at the bad service and the small servings of average food. It was a particularly unpleasant experience, and I will not be back.
