Bland indeed. The flavours which sounded so good on the menu were not evident in the actual meal. Several components of meals appeared to have been prepared hours in advance. Enjoyed the cheese-board which only needed to be assembled, not cooked.
Very noisy and crowded if you like that sort of thing, but hard to imagine anyone liking walking past spruikers for other restaurants as you make your way down hardware lane. Fortunately The Mill has no spruikers.
Staff were excellent except for the bouncer who was very rude to a disabled member of our party who fell over. None of us would go there again.

This was beneath our hotel and seemed to be the best place around for breakfast, despite being a little overpriced. Room service was great and the price the same as for eat-in (other than $3 for delivery). Smoking allowed on the outside tables.

I've been here several times with family members, but I have now put my foot down and said no more! The food is just so-so for the price. I have tried several dishes, and never found a good one. I can make better chicken, olive and preserved lemon tagine than they can, and for that they should be ashamed!
I asked a waitress if the tagines are actually cooked in a tagine, and to her credit she freely admitted that no, they are cooked in a saucepan then served in a tagine.
Nice central fireplace but last time I went there, the chairs were falling to bits.

Silo is fine if you are independently wealthy, or on holiday/leave and can go in off-peak times (before lunch always worked for me). I always enjoyed their food and would make sure to get a cheese plate to share with my baby (this is how she developed a taste for expensive cheese).
Now I would get take-away cheese and make my own cheese plate, but only if I could get there outside lunch time. This place is so small and at lunch time it is chocka-full of people and wait-staff trying to serve people. Working there must drive them ballistic.

Very impressed by this place. I had the best sausage roll then wished I had ordered the baked camembert (faux baked clarines) from the menu. Fantastic seasonal decorations inside. Outside, tables and a couch shaded by a loquat tree, looking out onto a tidy Japanese-style garden that kids can explore. I think I saw the staff get cardigans for an elderly customer who was cold.

I was disappointed too. Taking my great aunt out of the nursing home to what I thought would be a fancy (within a diabetic's limits) afternoon tea was a lot of effort for her. She ordered not-very-sugary cake which looked like something we could have got from a burger joint. Our cakes were no more special. Maybe I expected too much.

I was drawn in here by the cold air being pushed out on a hot day, even though I knew better. I ordered some spinach pancake thing, but found it barely edible. A companion miserably ate the second half for me. No value if you can't eat it! I guess we were paying for the air conditioning.

The food is always good at Bookplate, whether it be from the counter or the menu. This is one of the few places where I feel my child gets to eat like my equal - I think it is the set-up of the tables in the restaurant and in the cafe, and the way the staff treat her. Will try the tables on the verandah.

I didn't think the food was all that amazing, but if you live in the South and you're not prepared to go to Dickson, I wouldn't turn my nose up at it. I didn't really enjoy eating under the watching eyes of the queue of people waiting to sit down.

This place turns over a lot of cannoli, and with good reason. I also recommend the sfoglietti (sp?), jam donuts, palmiers, even the bread roll and jam.
The meals are also fantastic, eg the eggs benedict, the pasta, garden salad and anything that comes with chips. I really like the anchovy bread too!
Drinks are out of the fridge, or home-made milkshakes or smoothies. My daughter, a connoisseur, recommends these.
You can't have it all, and the coffee isn't great. I think it's the blend, not the execution. It is improved if it is iced.
On a slow day (which is rare), the staff will go the extra mile. Otherwise, you need to weigh up if you are prepared to put up with the noise and the queue and possibly even waiting for a table, in order to sit down and eat.
