This is a Yakiniku restaurant - you grill your own raw food. Don't expect sushi and terriyaki chicken.

Food was excellent. The quality of the beef and seafood first rate - which makes up for the relatively small portions and higher than average prices.

Most impressed with the hostess's service. I rang to book and it was fully booked for the Saturday night. She rang me back about 30 mins later when she had a cancellation.

The table service was excellent. Wine glass regularly checked and refilled. Good knowledge of menu. We were moved from a Yakiniku grill table to a back table for dessert, but was OK with that, given we were only there due to cancellation.

The restaurant is spacious and well appointed, which belies its nondescript look from the street.

I was very impressed with the selection of food, however, the staff didn't hold the attentiveness that was necessary.

Will try again, as the food was fresh and tasty, a little work needs to go into staff attentiveness.

Not enough food for the set menu. Left hungry, but spending a bit. Staff were accommodating, but had trouble explaining menu. Restaurant was a bit dark, but overall ambience quite pleasant. Nothing wow about the flavours of the dishes. Left with half a lighter wallet, and a half full stomach.

It was abit overpriced in my opinion although they offer outstanding food. Food was premium quality.

I was there for dinner last night, the servings were small, the waitresses had no idea what we were saying or asking for, food took forever to come out and the flavours of dishes was not great. We ended up leaving after waiting over 50 minutes for any food to come out. Not impressed and had to go and get food elsewhere as we left starving.

We went for the Set meals and I have to say that I was sorely disappointed. On paper, the set meals looked great with a wide variety. But when the dishes came out, I can't believe we're paying $55 per person for them! It said it included mixed vegetables, but it didn't say that it meant 6 cucumber slices, 6 pumpkin slices and 4 white mushrooms! And the beef. They were tiny bite-sized pieces and this was supposed to be dinner. Having said that, they were tasty although they would probably be heaps nicer if they were cooked by professional chefs instead.

What really annoyed me was getting charged $4.80 for a extra small dish of kimchi! That's absolutely ridiculous considering I can get a whole tub of it at Chinatown just around the corner. If you expect to be full after dinner without breaking the bank, avoid Takumi.

Wide selection of Wagyu beef cuts to DIY just the way it is done in Japan. If you are after authentic Yakiniku- Japanese BBQ, Takumi is a must. But before you do the grill, starters are a must. The beef tataki- Takumi's special just melts in your mouth. Big selection of premium sake, have it chilled not warm.

Dinner on a Friday night at Takumi was absolutely wonderful. Greeted at the door promptly by friendly staff and attended to regularly throughout the night with informative suggestions to dishes, sauces and drinks. Signature dishes are a must, floor manager's suggestion to particular cocktails were also quite a delightful experience. Wagyu beef (in various cuts) were great size, enabling you to try different cuts and have room for dessert. Had great fun grilling our own wagyu steaklets, you will never have to send steak back at this restaurant for an underdone or overdone dish. The grill is just a fingertip away.

First time but certainly not the last. Great food and service. A nice change from some of the other older (?tired) Japanese venues. Will go back and have any of the sets with one of their excellent premium sakes.

I love good beef and especially wagyu. This cook-yourself fare was superb! Perfect meat, tender and fresh. We got a selection of wagyu beef to grill ourselves and an amazing cappaccio beef mince with raw egg. Delicious.

A little expensive in my opinion. We spent $70 per head with two beers each and left a little hungry. Each serve for the grill was a handful of beef slivers. My biggest concern is the heat from the grill. That, coupled with the spotlight we were, unfortunately, placed under, made me sweat at the table, not a great look when dressed up for a fancy dinner in the city.

I would go again, but not soon, not if I was starving and only for a special experience.
