Overview of Jinks Creek

Jinks Creek Winery is located on the edge of the Bunyip State Park. Our fully recycled 1880's woolshed houses a casual eating area. We serve our wines including Pinot Gris, Sav Blanc, Chardonnay also Pinot Noir and a series of Victorian Shiraz from Heathcote, Longford and the Yarra Valley. We serve local cheese platters, antipasto platters with our wood fired bread as well as wood fired pizzas. We strive to use local ingredients wherever possible as well as growing our own herbs and vegetables.

The 120 years old building also houses a contemporary art gallery, the gallery is again focused on showcasing local talent from the Gippsland region. We are open on Sundays for lunch from 12-5 and we also cater for functions like weddings, birthdays, etc.

What a lovely place to spend a Sunday afternoon, run by a friendly local family. The pizzas are great, the wine, fantastic, loads of atmosphere and charm. You are normally greeted outside by the family pets, the dogs and ponies, the latter who sometimes are available for pony rides for the little kids. Sometimes service a little slow if busy, but the staff are hard working and attentive. We have been many times and always enjoy it, and therefore can highly recommend it.

Earlier today I took a drive out to West Gippsland to Jinks Creek Winery. It is 10km off Monash Freeway from the Tonimbuk turn off on the edge of picturesque Bunyip State Forest.

Having viewed the website and consequently booked, my expectations has been peaked to enjoy a wood-fired pizza, a range of local wines and art work in the beautiful surrounds and back drop.

Sadly, having waited nearly several minutes for a table then waited for over 10 minutes to get a drink order or menu, despite trying to get a waiter/waitress attention. At around this time, my girlfriend and I reluctantly realised that our chances of getting served anytime were poor (staff to patron ratio was hopeless for a venue that also offered wine tasting). A reasonably pleasant atmosphere was created by a number of family groups.

Hungry and disappointed we opted for a late lunch elsewhere (in Drouin). Given the venue has so much charm, it is a shame that we didn't get to enjoy the wine and food.

Given the experience I have opted not to rate the food and value, although at $15-$20 for a pizza my expectations would have been high.

If you are coming up from Melbourne for a West Gippsland experience, a number of other excellent offers are available for day trippers and weekenders alike a little further down the road in Warragul, Brandy Creek and Neerim South.
