Overview of Bistro Guillaume

Bistro Guillaume is a French restaurant in Southbank. It recaptures what the best bistros in Europe have to offer. Offered daily is a plat du jour of French bistro classics—duck confit, steak dishes, salads and more. Nevertheless, solo diners (such as Crown hotel guests, small groups or couples) are also catered for. The wine is a carefully selected list of 10 whites and 10 reds, all available by the glass or bottle. Half of these are sourced in France while the other half are from Victoria.

Ambience wise, Bistro Guillaume has the hallmarks of the best bistros in the world. There is a zinc-topped bar, timber panellings, a dramatic private room and an extensive outdoor terrace. You can enjoy some champagne and cocktails at the bar as well.

Went for a Sunday lunch with friends. I had the special Rack of Lamb & my friends had the Salmon & the Trevally. All was cooked well and to what we asked for. My friends finished with the Passionfruit Creme Brûlée and that was good too. Overall fairly good, service was good, and we did have a French waiter which added a nice touch. I am just not sure if I would go back soon since Melbourne has such a great number of other restaurant's to try out.

Found myself here on a Thursday night for work with a colleague and we had a nice meal, this place looks very sharp and the staff have a good mix of experience with a few authentic French people gliding around. The multi level space and open plan kitchen gives a nice feel and the ambience has a good pace about it.

We decided to share the chateaubriand for two and get 3 of the sides (cauliflower, watercress salad and carrots), the couple of pieces of bread to start with made this quite ample. I must admit the steak was fantastic, perfectly cooked and so tender, could have eaten another one! The sides were ok; carrots were nice (as nice as carrots can be), the cauliflower same and the watercress salad was a bit too heavy (could still taste it the next day). Shared a bottle of La Bastide Bordeaux which was a ripper. Service was efficient but not overly friendly, all in all it was a nice meal.

Very disappointed with the pork belly that came out soggy, not crispy and seemed to have rested a long time before being served. This was the same for 3 of us that ordered it. Good service.

French food at its best. It may be on the pricey side however the quality of the food is amazing! Highly recommend the Valrhona Chocolate and Salted Caramel Tart.

I only had dessert (cream caramel + ice cream + macaron) and coffee there. It's reasonable I really expected more from a high-end restaurant at Crown Casino.

Didn't quite live up to my expectations. Service was good and our French Waiter was happy to recommend his favourites which we ordered. I had the Beef Daube which was fork tender served with a beautiful mash & veggies. The only issue is I had next to no sauce. With such a generous serving of beef it became very hard to finish. If only they had provided a lot more sauce it would have been an outstanding dish. My friends had the John Dory with Lemon & Capers and Barramundi with Carrot Puree. The Barramundi was excellent but the John Dory (although well cooked) lacked in flavour as the capers did not provide much punch at all. The sides also had issues. Duck Fat Roasted Potatoes with Garlic & Green Pepper sounded wonderful but didn't deliver. The potatoes were not crispy and the green pepper left a burnt taste in your mouth. The Brocillini with Almond Butter could have done with more butter as it was a bit bland. Dessert was lovely with a very large serving of Profiteroles. Could easily be shared between 2. Overall I enjoyed the night but I'm not sure the food is worthy of it's one Chef's Hat.

We went for a Saturday night dinner with no booking and got a table outside. The table was fine, but needed a better wipe down from the previous diners. The wait staff were friendly and attentive even though they were clearly very busy.

The food was really delicious, unpretentious, generous and exactly what we were expecting. Sadly we didn't get to try any desserts as we were too full from a shared entree (scallops with pea puree and sauteed mushroom), main (I had the pork belly on lentils and my husband had the beef daube) and shared side (spinach with garlic and lemon). Highly recommended.

We had an excellent dinner here. The location is just perfect and the atmosphere outside on a cool night with the heaters on is lovely. The service was friendly and efficient and the food I thought merits the chefs one hat rating.

To follow we had the very best of French comfort food, simply described on the menu as Steak Frites and Roast Chicken!

The steak was beautiful, medium rare, served with crispy chips and peppery water cress. The sauce bearnaise brought the whole dish together and was heavenly!
